Hello, does anyone have an suggestion on what I can give my 5 month old yorkie so he won't barf in the car.

My 8 month old Sassy does this also. I don't feed her if I am taking her in the car, also I let her sit beside me in her car seat and that seem to soothe her so she doesn't throw up. I have 4 Yorkies so they don't go for rides very often anymore.

My 1st yorkie used to get terrible car sickness. Then when my husband came along, he came up w this idea to distract her with treats. So every so often in the car he was give her a little nibble of a treat. She would concentrate so hard on when she was going to get a nibble she didn't get car sick anymore. She started loving rides.

I'm planning a long car trip to NJ W/my little one who gets car sick, and just asked my vet what to do. She recommended DRAMAMINE for children. She said to give the lowest dose (for a tiny child). The vet said it might make her sleepy, but oh so much more comforatable. Wish us luck!!!!!!!!!

Yep Dramamine is safe - just follow the dose directions your vet said. There's two different possible reasons for it - anxiety or actual motion sickness. My Beagle has motion sickness, no anxiety what so ever - she actually loves car rides

but she'll drool badly then vomit ever since she was a puppy even if no food for a while prior, head out the window, nothing worked with giving her her something. I haven't tried dramamine yet, but I was also told by a vet that it's safe. If your bothered by the possible drowsyness though, something I've had perfect success with is an herbal remedy called Coculus - it usuall comes as these tiny round pellet type pills. There are a few homeopathic online retailers that sell it but I found it at my local health food store

It works like a charm and no drowsiness or worry about adverse side effects plus it's natural unlike Dramamine

Before medicating I would try something with ginger, as it calms the tummy (remember ginger ale when you're sick). Gingersnaps might be too much with sugar and fats but try making cookies yourself, using just a small amount of brown sugar, maybe coconut oil for the fat, whole wheat flour and fresh ginger. It won't hurt to try and better than having a drowsy pup.

I like the herbal remedy of Coculus. We have several Natural Food stores here in Phoenix so I will check it out! Bella is a picky eater and eats only once a day. She even refuses several dog treats. So baking my own, even though I have coconut oil, and whole wheat would most likely be a waste of my time. My friend bought Bella some doggie cookies made at a doggie bakery and bella sniffed them and would have no part. She is quite picky!

My little Augie was car sick also, but the more rides we took the more he got use to it, no more car sickness! I know this isn't a quick remedy, but I'd take him for rides as much as possible. Good luck!

The only times that Hot Rod got car sick was when I had him in a carrier on the seat of the car. Poor Maggie May got car/motion sick for the first year we had her.

The thing that helped us was getting a carseat that raised them up so they could look out the window. Maggie was getting sick even though, but once she figured out how to look out the windows, she stopped getting sick. It's kinda like that with humans as well, eye motion coordination.

When Suzi was a puppy , before a year old , she would get car sick too. Letting her sit high enough so she can see out a window seems to really help. It also calms her down so she is less likely to get sick. Suzi outgrew the car sickness. Sometimes after they have had more experience in a car they are better too.

I had the same problem with my 5 month old, Lily. Now when she rides she sits on the seat next to me, before she would be in her carrier, purse. No more car sickness since she is not confined at all.
