| Iams Veterinary Formula The vet recommended that my Yorkie Dora ate this food due to a few diarrhea/vomit with blood episodes in the past. It was never clear why she was sick or what make her sick. We move from VA. to TX. and since we got here she's been scratching right behind her legs and her neck constantly. Her eyes are always wet with stuff that dries on her hair. I have try all the shampoos and rinses out there, I ask the vet and he gave me another shampoo for the collection we already have. I was reading about this food and it looks to me that it will be healthier to feed her "Chicken Nuggets"... I don't know what else to try... Does anybody here have a similar experience with their Yorkie and have found something to make her feel better?? Any advise will be greatly appreciated, Thanks. |

| What brand were you feeding her when she got sick? It sounds to me as if she could have an allergy to one of the ingredients in the Iams. What is the protein source in the Iams, and what kind of grains? (Rice, corn, etc). It could also be an environmental allergy, not food related at all, so you're not going to know how to help her until you can determine exactly what it is that she is allergic to. I would see if you can get her into see a specialist and run some tests to find out what she is allergic to. If it is environmental, then she'll probably be on meds (steroids, Zyrtek, etc), but if it is food related then you can address it by reading the food labels and avoiding the culprit.

| She was eating Royal Canine for Yorkies, and before that she was eating Eukanuba for puppies, she is only 16 months old. It looks to me that the source for proteins is Chicken By-products, Mysterious Fish meal that is another by-product made out of commercial fish operations, that also contains Ethoxyquin (preservative)used in fish meals.Dangerous for dogs. The grains are Brewer's Rice (2nd ingredient) that is the stuff left over after milling whole rice! and Corn grits as the 1st ingredient. 3rd ingredient Chicken By-product. I don't like it at all... |

| OK, I haven't heard of RC or Eukanuba having a problem with making dogs sick (like Nutro dog foods), so I just wondered if it could be that or a food sensitivity / sensitive digestive tract issue. You wouldn't think it would be that difficult to find a good food, would you? It gets to where you have to second guess every ingredient. I would get the vet to run allergy tests, and if they can't do it, get a referral to a specialist at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists. (I notice you are in the Houston area, so am I). Then you will know what direction to go in to address the itching. Keep in mind that if it is food related, you can control that by eliminated the food from her diet, but it can take up to a month even after you stop giving them that ingredient to work the allergen out of their system. If it's environmental, there isn't much you can do to avoid things like pollen, but at least you'll know to go the medication route and that you're doing the right thing.

| I'm going to give him a call tomorrow, they are open on Sundays, I ask him one time before if we can find out if she has an allergy and he said to look for flees! I already did..., Dora is always with me even at work, I'm constantly checking her for flees or Ticks because she is always inside and she sleeps on my bed. Thanks for the info, that Gulf Coast place looks good, I'll keep it in mind. |

| I'd try asking about a grain free diet... RC caused harley lots of problems when he was on it as a puppy. we switched to NOW! and all problems stopped.

| There are a few different threads about using apple cider vinegar on this site.. I add it to my "pack's" drinking water. I think it helps with skin issues, eye gunk and fleas. My vet told me one flea bite can cause a reaction! I have some problems with one of mine even with the flea preventives.. he doesn't have fleas but while walking I guess he does get bitten I also agree with the advice given... grain free And I add salmon oil to my furbuts diet.. it really is a mission !! It has gotten better, a lot better http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...r-vinegar.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-eye-gunk.html
