| HELP my 1yr old yorkie is soooo itchy I hope someone can give me a quick suggestion. I am leaving in a few minutes to go to petsmart. My little louie has been really itchy lately. Its been going on for about 2 weeks now, but seems to be getting a little worse. He has some scaley skin patches on his tail under his hair....it is hard to see but when i moved the hair away i could see it a little....it just looks red and there are flakes on his hair around the area where he has been scratching at it. I also noticed that he has a few scaley bumps in other places on him way under the hair. Also, when I brush him lately I am noticing more hair in the brush. I kinda figured i was maybe washing him too much....like every 3 days or so....but it seems like i have to do it that much because his hair is looking really messy after 3 days even with constant brushing...his coat just doesnt seem the same. Right now i am using "veterinary formula puppy love shampoo" and have been since I got him at 4 months old......although I do wash him more now than then. Does anyone have any suggestions on any really great shampoo's and or conditioners that i could get from petsmart so i can give this poor baby some relief from his itchy skin? thank you so much! |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | I'd take him to the vet and have them do a skin scrape. Could be something mild as dry skin, or could be allergies or something worse. What kind of dog food is he on? Corn makes many dogs itch.

| What are you feeding him. my male has started itching and I think its his food. Corn in the food can cause itching.

| I'm no expert (I am a groomer though) BUT I usually wash Lili every 7-10 days. Every 3 days could be drying out his skin too much with that type of shampoo (not familliar with your brand). However, if he is losing hair and scalely you may want to bring him to the vet. He may have a skin allergy or issue that could be addressed by a good medicated shampoo that would address the problem specifically. Has he had a change in food lately? Just some thoughts.

I Love Thor Donating Member | Thor has bee having trouble with itchy skin too. My vet said to give him omega-3 fatty acid. I know that you can buy that at health stores. Good luck with that. Hannah |

| I just got back for the vet because my dog had itched an open wound on himself. I would take your dog to the vet. Mine ended up being allergies and the vet said right now is peak allergy time. He got a shot and meds.
