| Irritable Bowel Syndrome My little Murphy has been diagnosed with this. He is on Biosol M drops morning and night. He is also on Prescription Hills I/D food. I have never heard of this in dogs. The vet has done blood work and stool samples. He has diarrhea when he gets excited or scolded. Also no treats or anything beyond his food. Has anyone else had a problem with this??? I have two other Yorkies and he and they think he's really special because of all the extra attention he gets. lol... |

| That is so hard to deal with....Thank goodness for Dr. Foster and Smith carpet cleaner.... The vet did samples and also blood samples on Murphy and can't find any reason he should be doing this. Week before last our daughter and granddaughter moved out of the house and he had a bad 2 or 3 days again. I think anything that upsets him starts the diarrhea. |

| Our past yorkie Keally that passed away last January had IBD most of her life. Our vet had her on a .5 metronidazole twice a day. Also she was on Prescription Diet ID. She also got the Prescription Diet ZD which we used for treats and she loved the ZD. Sometimes I would mix alittle canned ID for her too. She did very well until she was 10 years old and picked up giardia. She lost the protein in her and had to rush her to the University Of Mn. Animal Hospital. Keally was only 5 pounds and they were amazed to save her life. We had her two 1/2 years longer and got the devastating news a brain tumor. Back to IBD it is very manageable but it takes time to adjust things like food and meds. We had her on predisone the last year of her life too. Our vet took her off of Metronidazole and predisone and put her on budesonide twice a day. That worked wonders for her and we felt she would be with us until she was 18. Sorry to talk alot about her too much but I hope this helps alot for your baby. It was vey hard to lose her. |

| awwww that is SOOOO sadddd!!! I am so sorry for your loss Do they know if the brain tumor was caused by metranitozole? I read up on it and it said it may cause neurological damage in dogs and that really concerns me! I have been adding in ZD to Ky's food which she LOVES and her belly is fine as long as she has a dose of metra. in her! I am just concerned that the metra. will cause long term damage?

| My little guy has (I've been told) a mild case of IBD. We have been able to control it very well through diet. Namely, he gets a raw diet (Nature's Variety medallions). Since changing to that diet, he's had very few problems. Only when he gets into another dog's food or overeats does he have any tummy issues now.

| My Rosie has IBS. As far as food, I/D and home cooking has worked best for her. Home cooking has saved me lots in vet bills. If you have any questions I will be glad to help if I can.

| Hey Mikki - what kind of home cooking do you do for Rosie? Do you rotate back and forth between home cooking and ID? We use ID now and we had quite a few problems over the last 4 months. I am pregnant and didn't know if that was why? I know dogs are sensitive to change. |

I do not alternate between the two. I feed the I/D when she has an episode with throwing up or diarrhea. I think home cooking has been so good for Rosie. Even better than the I/D. Has your pup been diagnosed?

| How did they diagnose your pups with IBS?? I am fairly certain that my older guy has this. We've done various blood tests and also an ultrasound. They found that his liver and pancreas had mild scaring and he also had sludge in his gall bladder, which he is on medication for....but he still has flare ups. Usually, when he gets a stomach ache, his tummy will be audibly upset and you can hear it gurgling and he won't eat anything until the evening. Somewhere in there, the diarrhea starts as well. I know that people food, changing food and stress bring it on...but there are also times where it pops up out of the blue. My vet prescribed the metronidazole to give to him the last time he had the problem...but I never gave it to him bc he was eating again by the time I got the medicine home. He hasn't had an episode since...but it seems like when he does, it will last, on and off, for about a week...and when he starts feeling better, he is a little piggy. He goes from eating nothing to wanting to eat everything. I am definitely interested in and willing to home cook my pups meals if it would help with his IBS. Being that my boys are picky but love table food, they would probably love it if I cooked for them. I've always been scared to do it as i feel like people food is what got us this mess in the first place. But I would love to have a recipe that I can try that is tailored to help IBS!! |

| I watched on TV news last night about a new treatment for IBS, diverticulitis, other bowel issues, fecal transplants are being done very successfully! Yes you read this correctly!! FECAL transplants!! Seems they inject contents of colons, along with the normal flora that is in the colon, transplanted into the colon of someone suffering with IBS or diverticulitis, etc......meanwhile, back at the ranch, they are working at getting the bacteria spearated out, dried in powdered and put into pills.....I suspect vet schools around the country will be looking at this new treatment for use in our pets...... |
