I waited MONTHS for my new little girl from my breeder and just last night brought her home. She's 15 weeks old and approximate 1lb, 8oz.

She won't eat. I've had food available for her all day and keep trying to give it to her. She's not interested. I'm really starting to stress out. She needs to eat something. Any suggestions? She's so tiny that I would just die if anything happened to her.

fry her up some med. rare steak and add some cooked rice & green beans chopped fine so she can't pick them out. Also buy a tube of Nutri-Cal for puppies and give her a pea size of the paste three times a day till she's eating really well. she will need to eat a little food often, about 5 or 6 times a day till she's about 4 months, then 4 to 5 times a day for another month and so on till she's down to 2 to 3 times a day by the time she's 7 or 8 months old. no snacks at all during these months of training good eating habits. If you do want to give her anything else, then a bit of cottage cheese or apple, cheese and any berries fresh or frozen. Thaw the frozen before giving to her.

I would def give her some Nutrical. That will keep her blood sugar up for the time being. She is probably stressed out from the trip and transition. Has she been drinking? Do you have a vet appointment set up for her? You could discuss this with the vet.

She just came home last night, so I can't get her to the vet until tomorrow. Her appointment for a checkup is Wednesday but I don't think I'm going to wait that long. I'll go out and get her some nutri-cal tonight. I'm hoping Walmart has it since the pet stores are likely closed.

She's sleeping a lot, which I expected. Not really taking in enough water, which also has me concerned and just wants to be held all the time. I don't mind holding her but I just really need her to eat. She's not active at all, which is out of her normal personality. At the breeder, she was very active. I'm sure she's stressed, but what can I do to help her? I feel so bad.

I would move the vet apt up to tomorrow if possible. Wal-mart should have nutri-cal. You could also get canned wellness puppy tomorrow morning at PetSmart which she would probably eat (that'd help with the water intake too). For now the nutrical will work. You can also make white rice and boiled skinless chicken.

As you know it is so important to get some food into her. I had one that just would not eat at first. I gave her the Cesar's wet food until I could get her to a good size and then switched her to a better food. If boiled ground beef and rice or chicken and rice doesn't work you could try the Cesar's. Definitley get the nutrical tonight so that she doesn't get low sugar. Have you contacted the breeder to see if she/he has any suggestions? If she starts showing signs of low sugar get syrup or sugar water into her and get her to the vet. The nutrical should help prevent that from happening. Hopefully she is just stressed and will start eating soon. Keep us posted.

As horrible as Science Diet is, we fed that to Bandit for about a week or two after we got him because he wouldn't eat, but he needed to eat something and he would eat that wet food. The vet might give that to you tomorrow to feed for a bit just to get her eating.

Poor baby. Maybe she is just anxious from moving to her new home. Hope she is eating for you soon. Maybe the vet will have some a/d doog food in the can. They give that to dogs for nutrition. Good Luck!!

My Riley didn't eat at all the first day I brought him home. He made up for it the next day.

I believe that's the one Bandit had to have when we first got him. We even had to feed him through a syringe but that was because he was sick.

Princess also would not really eat the first few days that I brought her home. She was also sick so that did not help matters either.

I took her to the vet immediately and they gave her some soft food to see if Princess would eat it. She did! So, I stopped on the way home to buy the canned food they recommended.

I had Nutrical on hand so I was giving her this, the first day we had Princess home.

I also had to hand feed Princess at first to get her to eat at all. Same with water.

Keep a very close eye on your new puppy. Things can turn so quickly with these tiny pups.

I also recommend calling the breeder for suggestions. And most definitely get your new puppy to the vet tomorrow morning as soon as possible.

The lack of energy could possibly be a sign she needs Nutrical and could need vet care right away, if no improvement.

Update:

She's been eating a little here and there but still not as much as I'd like to see. Her vet appt yesterday checked out fine. He said she's probably stressed and told me to try some wet food. She turned her nose up at that. I knew it would be a few hours until we got home (I had to get back to work), so I cracked and bought her a roast beef sandwich from Arby's. It was intended for me, but she was so interested that I ended up feeding her more than half the sandwich. I know you're not supposed to give them people food but I figured it was better than nothing. She needed something. She ate more than her body weight! She was so full that she turned down a piece of steak from dinner last night. (yes, I took her to the restuarant with us). Someone suggested baby food so I'm gonna drop by the store for some of that. Anything in particular besides chicken?

I know it is important to get her to eat but Arbys is so processed it may cause tummy upset. I would try the baby food and chicken or ground beef.

Have you spoken to her breeder? Do you know what she was eating before you got her? If she were mine, I'd be in constant contact with her breeder.

She is so tiny. Many breeders won't send them home until they've reached two pounds.

Arbys? Really? Sorry, but anything that is considered "junk food" for people I'd avoid giving to your puppy, no matter how interested she is in it. Try boiled chicken, and rice or try out different kinds of wet foods. Rizzo will gulp down Ceasers in a heartbeat, if he isn't eating then I'll mix a little of the Ceasers in with his puppy chow (enough for one serving size) and he'll gobble it down.
Again, avoid giving junk food to her, she is so little that a small stomach ache could turn into a huge vet bill if she gets constipated or gets diarrea. Keep a close eye on her, espically with the ammount of it she consumed. Keep giving her the nutrical to keep her sugars up and make sure she is drinking plenty of water.
