2 Important questions!!!! !!

So Bella ate a piece of plastic 2 weeks ago and had diarrhea because it was trying to work its way through her system. After going to the vet (150 later) and some antibiotics she got better emotionally but still has diarrhea. She is so hungry and would love to eat her kibble but until this gets better she can't. So today when I brushed her teeth I noticed that her three front teeth had new teeth behind them making the first three loose but not fall out. (Maybe because she hasnt been eating her hard kibble food just soft mushy rice) So she has been on a bland diet for a week now and I noticed that her breath stunk only to find out SHE WAS EATING her POO!!! Yuck! Yuck! Yuck!

So here is my question:

How do I stop her from eating her poop? I know she is hungry for bigger food and better other than chicken and rice but thats what the vet prescribed. If there is a spray or tactic I can put on her stool I would do it in a heart beat but want to know if anyone else has dealt with this before trying desperate measures!

Second, has anyone else dealt with their puppy have diarrhea from teething? and also how much does it affect your pup?


Thanks guys, I just really can't have my puppy eating her own poop! I also want to make sure that she is ok because she hasn't gotten over her diarrhea (way better than before once on meds but also still not good) either.

There are a lot of our little dogs who are poo eaters,my Jada is one of them. I am sorry little Bella is feeling bad. How old is she? I'm not sure if you can do this while she is on a restricted diet, but you can put some pineapple in her kibble, they like to eat the pineapple but it makes the poo taste bad to them. It works for some,but not all poo eaters. You can also sprinkle a little bit of meat tenderizer on her kibble, it is supposed to work too.

I have just about broke Jada from the habit, I just pick her poo up as soon as she poops. There are times when I don't get to it in time, but that has worked for me. I would talk to my vet about the retained baby teeth. They will make these little ones have horrible breath, and they usually remove them when you have them spayed or neutered, because they have to be sedated to remove them. I hope Bella feels better soon.

I agree pick her poo up right away!!! If I see pixie pick it up in her mouth I tell her to drop it.
Pineapple will discourage poo eating, I just buy the canned No sugar and put a little in her food.
As far as the baby teeth not falling out is common. When Pixie was spayed she had about 10 baby teeth removed bc they never fell out.

Puppies usually eat poop. You can add fresh pineapple or meat tendorizer to her food. That will not be a long term thing though. However, yes, I agree with picking up the poop.

Also, if she is still having diarhhea, make some white rice and hamburger meat, that will help.....

thank you for your responses!! Unfortunately, I have to bring Bella to the vet, she is still lethargic and her diarhea hasn't stopped after being on her meds. I think something is still stuck in her and I am hoping she doesn't need surgery to get it out!

Sorry to hear about your baby!

first, is the plastic. It is not digestable, and may very well be blocking something. Hoping it will pass. Some have done an anema (I think, but talk to your vet!) if it was far enough thorugh the intestines. Hoping you don't have to do surgery!

Second, is if everything else was normal and she was eating poo, means somethng lacking in her diet. Or eating too fast and not fully digesting. Instead of feeding something to make poop taste bad,, try to find out why they do it in the first place. I know easier said than done. But I always say to do trick training during mealtime. makes them eat slower and creates a strong bond between you and your pup. Good luck.
