| Uti Anyone have any experience with recurring urinary tract infections? This is Brandi's 3rd UTI in two years. I take her to the vet and they give her an anti-biotic and then it clears up. Based on her bloodwork and other tests, the vet couldn't find any underlying causes. Any info would be great. The only symptons she has is blood in her urine. She is eating and drinking water normally, she's not lethargic. In fact she seems very happy go lucky. I make sure she has clean water everyday and her food dishes get washed everyday. I don't know what else should I be doing? Last edited by yavenay; 04-19-2010 at 02:24 PM. |

| Has she had a Bile Acids Test? What kind of food are you feeding her? What kind of bowls does she eat and drink from?

| No bile acid test as of yet. She eats from ceramic bowls and I feed her Natural Choice. She can only eat canned food as she only has 4 front teeth left. I've tried other types of food but so far this is the only type of food that doesn't give her the runs or she will eat consistently and even then I have to keep changing the flavors. She is a very picky eater. |

| Unfortunately, recurring urinary tract infections are pretty common in female dogs because of their anatomy. As my vet said, the "poop chute' is very close to the "pee chute" so bacteria can travel to the urinary tract easily. Has she ever had a sterile culture done? Here is a great article for you: Urinary Tract Infection |

| Thank you for the link on UTI's, Sophie Kate is currently having her first UTI and that was a new link for me to bookmark. Everything I've read also said they are common for female does with her body type. The meds are for two weeks and seem to working really well so far, as much as I want to stop giving them to her I know better and she has to finish them. Thank you again.

| Has anybody heard of cranberry relief for dogs and cats? It's supposed to help prevent recurring uti's. I haven't purchased it but I would love to find something that can help prevent this if it's possible to do. Lots of things can affect urine pH, including diet. This is definitely something to discuss with your vet if uti's are recurring. | Here's another good article that I wrote on UTI's, it's all reference based with sources sited. Articles Information - Pet Care - Urinary Tract Infections - Crystals - Symptoms,Causes, Treatment and Diets A lot of higher quality foods come with Cranberries in it. Take a look at Orijen.. Some people use Berry Balance as a supplement and had a lot of success. |
