| when to spay pup under 4 lb.. Hi everyone, Gigi has just turned 6mo. She is 3.5 pounds. I have always fixed my dogs before 6 mo. but Gi is so little I have been waiting. Do you think I should go ahead and make an appointment or wait to see if she gets a little bigger. Anyone out there with one under 4 pounds? When did you have it done? Thanks so much |

| Chloe was right around 4 pounds at 6 months... I waited until she was 10 months old... I knew that if she did go into heat there was no chance of her getting pregnant and she still had a few retained baby teeth we were waiting on, so overall i felt it was best to give her time to grow and mature. I am happy I made the choice, she never did go into heat, all her baby teeth came out on their own and she was closer to 5 pounds by the time we did the procedure.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Ruby was just over 3lbs when she was spayed at 13 months. does Gigi have any retained puppy teeth? If so, you may want to hold off on her spay for another month or so, to see if the teeth will fall out on their own. If not, then her retained teeth could be removed at the time of her spay. Regardless of when you have her spayed, be certain to have pre-op blood work done.

| Cerise was spayed a few weeks ago at 8 1/2 months, weighing 3.4 pounds. At first I was very nervous, but pleased that it went well.

| The older they are the better. Gives their liver time to grow to the largest size. Safer that way.

| I had Faith spayed on April 1st and she weighed 3# 2 oz at the time. She was 10 months old when she had her surgery. I would have waited longer for the spay, but she had so many baby teeth that weren't falling out and they needed to be pulled. She ended up having 14 baby teeth pulled! I guess overcrowding like that can cause their adult teeth to be crooked. So, if it wasn't for all those teeth, I would have waited, but she did great. She was pretty miserable the day of the surgery, but that next morn, she was back to her wild and crazy self!

| This is the second time I have seen mention of laser surgery, is this something new? Arabella will be a year old next week and she hasn't been spayed yet. The vet wanted to wait for her to gain more weight (last visit she was 2.08 lbs.) and get over a skin irritation. She wanted her over three pounds but it doesn't look like that is going to happen. I will be making her appoint for late May or early June.

| I really don't know if it is new or not. The vet I use has had laser for about 3 mths. I personally prefer laser. I think it is safer. Cost a little more, but to me it is definitely worth it.

| Sweet Pea just got spayed a week ago Friday. She is 3lbs and a little over 1yr old. The only reason why we waited so long was because we had 3 Bile Acids tests done to make sure she didn't have LS. I think anesthsia was a bit too much for her as she was vomiting for 3 days after and the 3cc of pain meds were a bit too much for her so we stopped giving them to her after the 1st day post op. But she is doing fine now. I'm still glad i had her spayed and would do it again.
