| Worm What will you do if you saw a worm sticking out on your dog's anus? Before going to vet, what's the first thing to do? |

| Is it small like a grain of white rice? If you can easily get it and put it in a ziplock baggie, do so. It will help the vet to have a sample. If it looks pretty long or something, I would leave it alone and just go to the vet asap.

| Hummmm - I had that EXACT thing happen, but it was a weanling Quarter Horse stallion that we were getting ready for a show. When I saw the little wormie "waving" at me I was VERY surprised 'cause GW was on a regular worming schedule. I grabbed a paper towel, pulled it out and took it up to the house to show hubby. I went to the feed store and got a different type of wormer. Of course this was a 700 lb. baby rather than a teeny tiny pup. I have never had a Yorkie with worms other than a rare tape worm, so I don't know how I'd react. |

| Take a fecal sample to your vet. Different worms need different medication. |

| Naw, I wasn't afraid -- I live on a farm and you learn to expect the unexpected. It WAS really gross, though, and I still find it hard to eat a plate of spaghetti. |

YT 500 Club Member | oh man I JUST went through this and spaghetti STILL aint happening in my house just get a paper towel or some gloves and SLOWLY pull it out if it offer and resistance STOP!! it could be a tape work and they can get all tied together and other yucky things. do not remove it unless you can remove the whole thing. In tape worms if you remove the whole thing and the head remains it can regrow its body I know your totally gaging right now i was to. And it gets grossser i checked every piece of stool for like a week after to see if they were all out some are REALLY REALLY small like the width of your hair and some arre spaghetti sized so be prepered!!

| Most worms are covered by whatever heartworm meds you are using. The tapeworm more than likely is not covered. I don't think you have to bring the dog in since you have a "sample". You can call your vet and ask if you can come in for some worm meds. The tapeworm is taken care of by a pill... one time dose.

| First of.... YUCK!!! if that were me, first I'd probably go throw up... I personally wouldn't be pulling anything out. Not to say that's not the right thing to do, i just don't think I could! I would take a stool sample in first thing and probably describe it to the vet as well. I imagine its just worms and nothing to worry about. |
