| Estimate Cost of X rays!!! I need to know what others have had to pay for a leg/knee xray. We are still stuck with Banfield right now...BIG MISTAKE SHOULD HAVE LISTENED. We are very upset with them being a "training hospital" and we don't like that anything not included in their wellness plans are so overpriced. We think Sadie needs x rays to rule out a fracture or LP in her lame leg. Banfield's quote was starting costs of $200 for x rays. What do you pay usually???? I'm asking other vets in the area as well to get a cost comparison because that just sounds a little too high for me. Gosh I can't wait to get out of Banfield. I am to the point i'm thinking of going elsewhere and just eating the $20 a month until Aug. Let me know your experience with x ray costs please. |

| I had x-rays done for Piper Dec.2008. She was carrying her right hind leg due to Legg Perthes. The x-rays were $190.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Other vets might be lower, but isn't time relevant here? I mean I think I would get her treated, and then start looking for a vet I like better. Training hospitals can be good, there should be someone there to supervise, If you just don't feel like they can do the job, take her to another vet right away, but if it's broken, treating the break promptly might be the best thing to do. Hope she's ok, didn't know she had injured herself, was it a fall, or jumping from too high? I'm sorry you are going through this, and praying she get better soon. Does she act like she's in pain, if so, I'd definitely get the x-rays no matter what the cost.

| Legg Perthes is when the ball of the femur deteriorates and is malformed. Piper had bone chips floating in her hip socket. The head of the femur had to be removed.

she was going up her puppy steps (only three of them) and dh saw this so it's all what he's told me, but he says she was on the top step about to make a small leap to the bed that she does all the time and on the top step her front paws went straight up and she fell straight backwards onto her butt. when she stood up she was limping. she's never whined or made a peep one time this whole time. this happened on Wed. morning and we took her in then, they gave her anti-inflammatory shot and some meds for the week. we gave them two days in a row and stopped because she was vomitting from it. she's fine now tummy wise, but her leg though she's using it much more is still being favored some and it's worried me that she just might have a fracture and not just a sprain so i'm going to get something done to make sure. i just really would rather go to someone better than banfield if possible and i do think that 200 starting costs might be a bit outrageous compared to the other, better and more experienced vets in the area. we'll see.

| $200 sounds about right to me, but I am in the Southeast. I would probably just go ahead and get them done right away. If there is anything broken, you'll probably have to consult an orthopedic vet. Cha-ching, cha-ching....$$$$$! Welcome to the world of toy breed dogs! |

I just read Ladymom's reply, and I would listen to her advice.

| How many views is that? For abdominal here, it is somwhere around $70-$80 per view and a discount is given if more than one is needed.

| that was just starting costs so one view i guess. that's why it sounded so big to me. only one picture starts at 200. how about if they needed 5 views :S anyways i'm willing to spend what i have to, i just wanted to get second opinions more than anything. if we can't get in tomorrow morning somewhere else at a better rate, then we've already got an appt. at our reg. vet tomorrow reguardless. we'll have the recheck and if they really suggest the x ray then she'll have one done. i don't want a hairline fracture to be healing wrong or an LP to be just left that way. she's never whined and eats fine. i really doubt it's broken, and rather a sprain that's taking awhile to heal, but i don't want to assume at this point either. also, the vet did say that some dogs have very high pain tolerance and i've always thought that my girl might be one of those dogs. pray guys that it's nothing and will just heal up quickly. i sure don't want her to have anything major here. poor dear. and yes, it's costly, but in the long run worth every penny to have her and thank God we have more than enough to spare on her care and the very best we can give her. |

| Just wondering what your $20 a month payment to Banfield covers? Is it just visits or is it some type of insurance that covers accidents? Did the vet tell you to stop the meds there were prescribed or did you just do this on your own? This might be the reason that she is not showing improvement if it was an anti inflammatory that was to be given over a period of time but was stopped too soon I would think that you would not see results as expected. What do you mean when you say she has a lame leg? Do you mean that she is not putting any weight on it at all, hold it up, or limping? Did they mention anything about her possibly having LP? All 3 of mine have some degree of LP so I need to watch that they do not jump but they have all limped in the past from doing something they should not have If I were you I would just pay the money for the Xray to make sure there is not a break. Poor thing always seems to have something going on

| Just reread your post and now I am even more confused since an LP dx does not need to be Xrayed. The vet can determine this by feeling how the knee pops in and out of the socket and assign a grade of 1, 2, 3, or 4 to the LP diagnosis.

it's called a puppy wellness plan. it's 99 to start up and 20 a month for a year. it covers all shots, the spay, and all vet visits, some dewormings, fecals, ext. she started out Wed. morning not putting any weight on it at all, now she's using it most of the time, but still with a limp and i will still catch up holding it up and not using it at all. the meds were for three days but they sent 5 days worth. i gave two days worth before stopping because she was really throwing up a lot. i also had to put her back on boiled chicken and rice because of the vomitting so much. they never said anything about LP as far as i know. they said if it didn't improve in a day come back. it did improve because she started to use it more so we didn't go back. but that was after a day and now it's been 4 days and she's still got the limp. i just am concerned that it's not healing faster but maybe that's normal for a bad sprain/strain?? i agree to just xray and make sure it's nothing worse as a ruling out. was it a bad idea to stop the anti-inflammatory meds a day early? should i have kept going with them? i was so worried about the throwing up at the time.
