Luckily there is no shunt, but the biopsy results came in and he does have microvascular dysplasia. He is currently on metronitonzale and lactolose and eats a perscription K/D diet. What should I do to help him, would different food or medicine be helpful. I have talked with others with yorkies with microvascular dysplasia who have bile acid counts between 75-100. My Timmys is so much higher and I am worried. If anyone could help me with information, I would GREATLY appreciate it!

what was percentage of protein you were feeding prior? Ok good they determined no shut so just doing low protein and some supplements should help alot - you can also do natural balance vegetarian diet or if you are up to home cooking dr dodds liver cleansing diet is a good one

Im not sure, he was eating Nutri Source Puppy for small breeds. He was also getting Nutrical vitamins.

Yes it was, I tried him on L/D and he hates it. my picky little boy! The natural Balance Vegitarian diet is ok? Since he was little I brushed his teeth because I know that yorkies have teeth problems, since all this medicine started he wont let me go near his mouth, so I would prefer a dry food so his teeth stay as clean as they can! I would hate to have to put him under anysthesia to clean his teeth!

I just learned that the Hill l/d is 10% higher in fat than the Royal Canin, so I would go the RC Hepatic LS 14 route....

For teeth, dry food will not deter tartar and plaque. Maybe get some guaze and wrap on your finger to do some brushing, until you can gain his trust again to use a tooth brush

even if you brush his teeth and dry food they still need teeth cleanings sadly just like we do - think of their teeth like our teeth minus the cavities as they do not eat sugar like we do so that is not a big issue with them but they still need the tartar removed. The reason they say dry food is bc it is harder for it to get below the gum line unlike wet food but wet food prevents kidney damage so why some feed dry in am and wet in pm so there are pluses and minuses of both but brushing is key to saving teeth. I have learned alot about teeth since my maltese lost 27 to periodontal disease at 4 and we went to a board certified dentist.

Yes natural balance vegetarian is also used for mvd dogs as it is a low protein diet. My mvd dog is on purina ha a hydrolized soy diet which is vegetarian as well. Her numbers went from 73 and 54 post to 26 on the diet after 6 months.

Many dogs like L/D better if you bake it in the oven

i agree L/D is higher in fat and my pancreatitis dog is on 8% fat and 18% protein which is the purina ha so fat content is important for yorkies as pancreatitis runs in this breed as well

I like the nb veggie as it is 18% protein and 8% fat as well

an mvd with symptoms needs to be on 18% protein and a dog with no symptoms 22% protein

I think your dog had symptoms as your dog was on a very high protein so dropping to 18% you should see a difference - the key also is a highly digestible protein like fish and veggies, egg whites, soy

His Pre-bile acid test was 126.4
His Post-Bile acid test was 131.1

His ALT was normal at 25

The day we took him to the vest he was acting drunk or as if he was having a stroke, leaning to one side and looked frozen and confused. He now gets off balance once in a blue moon and he shakes once in a while (about 5x a week for a minute each time)

So which is better HA or NB Veggitarian?

vegetarian will be cheaper -- and they did a scintigraphy and ruled out a shunt ? Did they put him on Denomarin?

Yup he had that almost 2 weeks ago, thats why he had the biopsy and it came back MVD...He goes back april 1st to get his stitches out nd talk about new medicines then. Right now he is on the lactolose and metronitinzal

is the lactulose helping ? did he have any seizures? Ask them about denomarin when you go in as that has milk thistle and sam-e or you can do them separately if you want as they help restore and cleanse the liver - also juicing zucchini and celery together as zucchini cleanses the liver and celery cleanses the urinary tract

Thank you sooo Much...He does shake every so often, but no seizures per say. He never really had seizures ever. His bile acids have not gone down at all so i would like to change something so they can start going down some.
