| Teeth My Sadie just turned a year old and I just brushed her teeth for the first time tonight...I know...I am a horrible mother. She doesn't let me look at her teeth and I knew this was going to be a hassle. I notices that just above her teeth on her gums are a very dark red/brown color. What could this be. From what I can tell it is along all the top teeth. She won't let me see the bottom. How did you get your babies to let you brush their teeth and what is the best brush and paste to use? | I use OXYFRESH that my vet sells..I put it in the water every day and it works that way..I tried the teeth brushing thing and my dogs said "No way lady", so I use that. Sounds like gingivitis to me with the red gums but not sure. |

| All 3 of my dogs willingly let me brush their teeth. I buy them flavoured dog toothpaste, and start out slow using a small cat toothbrush. The first couple of times I "brushed their teeth", I didn't really brush them, I just let them lick the toothpaste off the toothbrush. Once they seemed comfortable with that, I started to kinda edge the toothbrush into the side of their mouth and let them chew on it. After they seemed comfortable with that, I'd slowly start to brush. I'd say it took about 1.5-2 weeks of taking it slow, then I could really give them a toothbrushin'.

| That is what I understand from the vet that the enzymes clean the tartar and make the breath smell fresh... |

| Thanks for the tips ladies. I think I'm gonna look into the OXYFRESH and order it ...in the meantime maybe I can slowly get Sadie to LIKE brushing everyday!

| Next time you go to the vet, please ask them to check her teeth. The vet should do this anyway.

| She has an appt coming up in a couple if weeks with the vet, I will definetly have her look at her gums. She isn't showing any discomfort, but if she starts I'll take her in sooner!
