| Luxating patellas? Generally speaking, when does luxating patellas usually show up? Or how soon can it be diagnosed? Lily is 6 months.

| The groove in the knee joint is shallow and allow the knee to pop in and out of the socket. Depending on how bad it is, it can cause pain to the dog and surgery is need to fix the problem. Grades are 1 to 4 1 being slightly loose (may or may not tighen up) and 4 is when the knee pops out and stays out , at this point surgery is needed to repair the joint. While the problem is known to be genetic in nature. Dog can also injury the knees by jumping up and down constantly or jumping off furiture. |

| as far as I know, there is no set time for symptoms to show up. Hot Rod went thru lp surgery just about a year ago, he was 1 1/2 when he started having symptoms. He would pick his hind leg up and sort of hop/skip. Then when it got really bad for him, he didn't want to go for walks. His ligament was way off to the side also which made his little leg bow. Since his surgery, the vet has said that his knee is good to go and is as tight as can be! Yay. Hot Rod went from a grade 1 to a grade 3 in a matter of months - Nov - March.

Some loose knee's can be seen at birth and other it may take years to show. And as I said earlier dog can also injury the knee's by jumping up and down on the back legs or jumping off furiture. The Vet should check for knee problem when you take them in for check ups. Last edited by yorkiegirl2; 03-03-2010 at 09:05 AM. | |

| The vet didn't detect anything at her visit. So for now I will have her avoid activities that can aggravate symptoms such as jumping on and off furniture.
