| new food...red runny eyes Hello! I have a question about my dog Stella. I am transitioning her onto adult food (from Blue Buffalo puppy to Innova adult small breed). We did a about a week of mixed food and have been doing 4 days of only Innova adult. Her eyes are really runny and red and the fur around her eyes is turning darker. I am sure it must be the new food but my question is this: does she just need to get used to the food (and then her eyes should clear) or does this mean I need to find something different? I have a tough time with getting food she will eat. As it is she will only eat Innova if I put a little hot water in it. I really do not want to keep switching her adult food if this eye problem will clear up. We tried soooo many puppy foods that I do not want to do that again. The discharge is not smelly and the eye 'boogers' are not severe. Her eyes just seems to be runny and after she eats she rubs her face on the ground. I would appreciate any advice! Thanks, Nikki |

| I had mine on Innova small bites for a while and it seems like Buster's eye boogers got worse. But, he has always had eye boogers. Maggie gets them every so often but nothing like Buster. He had them bad when they were on Innova, although I think they liked the Innova. But that's just my opinion.

| I'm right there with you with the runny eyes. My girl was a year old Jan. 25th. From puppy we too have switched foods alot because she would just stop eating it. She has now been on the new Buffalo for small breed and she is loving it. I also use about a half teaspoon of their can food with it. I take the can food and microwave for 6 seconds stir in the can and feed her immediately. She actually dances in circles all the way to the sunroom to eat! YAY!!

| Thanks for your responses. I can't help but worry about this as I hate for her to be uncomfortable. Katy-Yorkie, we tried several adult food samples and Innova was one of the rare few she would eat. I was really hoping it would be good for her but it does seem to be making the runny eyes worse than the blue buffalo did. Perella, I am glad someone can relate. One of the reasons I am switching Stella's food from puppy to adult (she is only 10 months) is because she basically stopped eating blue buffalo except when she was really hungry. I didn't want to find yet another puppy food and then adult food 2 months later. She has done that with all her foods (stop eating after a few months). Very frustrating! |

| You got that right, so frustrating! My girl wouldn't eat Blue until they came out with this small breed, it's in a pink bag. You should try with the spoon of can mixed in.....she truely loves it and her eyes are doing great. Keep in mind, if it doesn't work out for her, you can return the used portion for a refund too. Good luck!

YT 2000 Club Member | My dogs had terrible staining also with innova..also they pooped a ton. Took them off it after a month. Maybe you should try going back to blue buffalo since your little one did well on it.

| Thanks you guys. I think I am going to follow the advice and go back to blue buffalo (small breed in the pink bag). Innova is just not working and everytime I see her stained face I feel soooo bad. haha. I am going to go pick it up tomorrow. Perrella, I think I will try the spoon of canned as well. I may as well use that instead of hot water...she is drinking plenty without it in her food! What kind do you use? are there different kinds...I have never used canned food before. Hugz...now that I am thinking about it, she is pooping more than she was on the blue. I have starting finding poo accidents b/c I am not used to having to take her out more often. thanks again...I feel better about changing her food again. I really really hope this is the last time! |

| I bought like 3 different kinds in the can and Zhoie loves them all, plus she gets a change and she won't get tired of the same one. I open a can and divide it up in 3 small freezer containers and freeze the extra 2. That way the one I'm using, is only staying in the frig a few days and I'm sure it won't spoil. We've had our friends little yorkie for 2 weeks tomorrow while they were in FL and was told he doesn't eat well. Sure enough, he was eating a few bites of his current food. However, I started switchin him to the small breed Blue with some canned mixed in and he now eats every bite and licks his bowel for more. LOL. Had to break it to my friend that she will now need to buy Blue, hahaha. She's a dear friend and was fine with that...lucky for me. I just couldn't stand to see him not eating and so thin. The little guy has really filled out well too. Let me know how your baby does on it.

| My boys went on Innova for a week and their reddish eye stains got worse. Back on Acana but thinking about trying Blue out. They seem to get the brown eye gunk a bit on the Acana.

| I have Reesie on Orijen and the eye gunk is gone. He was on Wellness Puppy and had horrible eye goop.
