| Should i get him fixed? (personality changes?) Hello. I have a 1 year old yorkie and i was thinking about the possibilites of me getting him "fixed." i am completely against getting him fixed but i know there is a risk of testicle cancer. will it affect his personality if i get him fixed? that is my biggest concern. so i am wondering, if it is a good idea to get him fixed and if it will affect his personality (make him more boring, not as playful, nice etc.) thanks! |

| I've never heard of it changing their personality. If it did, it would be for the better, he would be focused on you and not on thinking about breeding. Neutered males are just as playful as unneutered. And probably easier to take on walks. If there is a female in heat within a mile, they can smell it and will be all about getting to her. |

| I haven't heard of spaying or neutering ever changing a dog's personality. Like Jeaniek said, it's only for the better, not only will they not want to hump everything in sight anymore, it actually calms them down a bit. It's definitely the smart thing to do if you aren't planning on using him as a stud.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Actually, they change more if you don't get them fixed; the longer that testosterone is in the blood the more "manly" they become. If you want to keep him a little boy, I suggest getting him neutered.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Well, its not a firmly established habit yet, the longer you wait, the harder it is to train them not to mark.

I just got my boy in December. He was a year old and was neutered a month before we picked him up. I couldn't imagine him not neutered. He is like a little puppy and such a mamas suck. I say do it, its definitely for the better with male dogs! | |

| I was also worried about neutering my male but knew it would be for the best for him health wise. He got neutered a little over 6 months and he is still the same fun loving boy he has always been. I see no change in the way he plays at all. The day he was neutered you would have never known that he just had surgery because he was was up wanting to play like he always does. |

| Just thought you should know, my boy was neutered after his first birthday. He's still acts like my little boy. He did have a bit of a hormone surge after the neuter where he wanted to hump my old roomie's dog, but now he isn't interested in humping at all!

| mine was neutered at 6 yrs old. he developed a tumor in his anus due to too much testosterone. it did not change his personality. it is important to neuter yorkies because the high testosterone causes tumors. no one ever told me. i didn't neuter him as a pup because it was against the ethics of a boyfriend. i was wrong.
