6 month old puppy on adult food? - YorkieTalk.com Forums

I have Toby (11 months) and Maisie (5 months) on Orijen puppy. I want to keep them on Orijen and I want to keep them on the same food.

I need a new bag (13.5KG bag because of delivery costs), and not sure whether to get puppy or adult.

I contacted Champion Foods that make Orijen to ask what they suggested. They said that once Maisie was 6 months, she would be ok on the adult food, that most of her growing would be done. I dont want her to miss out on nutrients though.

Maybe I could mix the puppy and adult for both of them for a while?

What do you think? Isnt 6 months too young to be on adult food?

I think you should not give them same food because they are different in age so their diet should not be the same.Your puppy may be delicate to digest that food.

They dont eat all their food when it is put down, they pick throughout the day, so I free feed them, and they end up eating out of each others bowls. They need to be on the same food.

What age exactly is suggested for adult food? Gracie is 10 months and we are just putting her on Blue Buffalo. Bristol is not even 3 months and she is on puppy Royal Canine. As soon as we can I am going to switch her to the Blue Buffalo puppy. Mom had stocked up so we have a bag to go.

Dont know what age the adult is for - I dont have a bag, but the lady at Champion said that because they are small breed, they will mature earlier than other breeds, and can start the adult food earlier. I think its usually about 10months for a Yorkie to mature??

I know you said that you don't want to switch, but a food formulated for All Life Stages (ALS) would work great for both dogs. There are several great ALS formulated foods (kibble, wet, and raw) available.

I feed adult food to all my dogs and even the puppies. There is to much protein in puppy food and can also make the puppy grow faster then the bones which will make the bones weak.

And unless you are going to feed them all separate your going to have your adults eating puppy food, which they do not need and your puppies eating adult food anyhow.

Hi Penny is 5 months now. Our vet said wait until 12 months before changing food. Of course every vet is different. We are lucky to have a great vet just 4 minutes away.

Sandy is 5 months old and I recently switched his food to Acana All Life Stage kibbles (the grainfree formulas). He has no problem with his food.

Teegy has just turned a year and I'm switching him to Orijen red. All the info I came across said 10-12 months is a good age to switch but my friends switched their pups around the same age months ago?

It was fine to wait.

Puppy food is available for a reason. I know this thread is old, but to the OP, six months is too young to put a pup on adult food.

Hi Marie09! if you go to the top blue bar on the screen and search watery eyes, there are a lot of threads that pop up that discuss this topic (I tried to find an especially good one to link but I had a difficult time picking one that matched your question best) if after searching you still feel like you have questions I think you will get a better response if you post a new thread on the topic. I know there can be a lot of different causes for watery eyes

Could be allergies does it happen all the time after she eats or perhaps had been outdoors

No she's an inside dog. it's hard to tell when she gets it because she has it all the time besides after when I get done taking her a bath.
