| Maxwell Has To Have Surgery I've been shaken up off and on all afternoon over this I found a tooth today that was so loose, I panic, a bit He has never had his teeth pulled since he still has his baby teeth. I've been belonging this for quite a while until it was necessary. If they had to do one tooth, why not the rest I was thinking before I got to the Vet. She wasn't worried about the one tooth, but the other baby teeth that are still there. I gave in and he is scheduled next week to have his teeth pulled. Have any of you all had you dog's teeth removed for whatever reason~? Then I brought the subject up of neutering. Have any of you neutered your dogs when they were getting their teeth pulled~? What are your experiences with this~? I'm just not sure about the neutering. I know a neighbor who had his Shiz Tsu neutered, and it seem like his personality changed after that. Maxwell was the first to meet him when he moved in (a son got his Dad this dog to help him get out and exercise after his heart surgery. The man quit riding his bike and everything. Now he walks him daily). Poor guy, Maxwell put him in a wrestling hold whenever they meet now. Before they would kind of play together. Will Maxwell loose that playfulness if he got neutered~? What else changes~? Anyways, the Vet told me to sleep on it and make a decision and not do anything that I am not comfortable or unsure of. I guess I have my memories of my cat that didn't make it thru surgery (at another Vet) and I had no choice but to put him to sleep ( and I was there for it and it was tramatic). |

| Well, in our case, Hot Rod had his teeth out at this neuter. He was 6 1/2 mos old and had double rows of teeth. He had 14 teeth removed at that time. He did fine other than I should have insisted on pain meds! Hot Rod's personality did not change. He is just as loving as ever and I don't imagine that he would have been any different if he had not been neutered. He did't put any weight on either (another thing that some people thinks happen). He had not started to lift his leg yet and now he only lifts his leg outdoors. Never has nor does he mark indoors. It has to be something you feel comfortable with but I am glad that we had him neutered. If you need to have his teeth removed, this would be a good time to do so so he will not have to go under anestheisa 2x. Another reason would be to keep any possible "breeding" mishaps as well as help with his overal health down the road. I am sorry to hear about your cat. Good luck with your decision.

| Has any of your all's dog or other pets gained weight from neutering or spaying~? I have heard this. Maxwell is like 7.8 lbs last ime I weighed him at Feeder's. He can't fit into his winter coat. All he can fit into is a sweater a neighbor got for him at Xmas with his name etched on it. It's adorable Thinking about neutering maybe good. That is, if I want to put him in daycare they would take him and not put him all by his lonely self. That would be nice to have a day to myself while he's in daycare maybe. Last night he sniped at Fred (Gorden Setter mix of my neighbors) while I was talking to them about these issues about him. Maxwell doesn't snip often. He has at me and once he about took my hand off....or I felt like it. When we walk in the park, I have lost count over his peeing...30 times Maxwell is my only child and I have thought about another dog. The Vet did tell me I would have to get him neutered if I did. Why make him go thru sedation twice, she said. I plan to call them after hours when they aren't so busy and talk to them about my concerns and questions. |

| My only male dog, a Schnauzer, had only very positive personality changes when he was neutered. He became an even sweeter boy than before, and stayed closer to home rather than trying to run off. He was still as friendly, energetic and playful. I only wish I had done it sooner, as I waited until he was a couple years old. This is a perfect time to remove baby teeth, and is the time most people do it (during spay or neuter). I have 2 females soon due for spay that will each have a couple teeth removed at that time. Your dogs weight is determined by his genes, food and exercise, not by neutering.

| I had my dex neutered and he had 10 baby teeth removed at same time. Make sure they give pain shot and meds My dex is very sweet loving boy - it did not change his personality at all and i think it is healthier to neuter if not breeding as they can get prostate cancer, etc if not I would do it all at once so his permanent teeth can grow in properly otherwise you run the risk of them growing in wrong and affecting the jaw and also the more teeth in mouth the more bacteria and tartar build up as well I know it is scary but in the long run you will be happier you did this how old is your boy ? my boy was 6 mos when he was neutered |

| I am not sure about spay differences with personality or weight between males/females but I believe the changes I saw with Zoey (slight backtrack with training and 'continuing' weight gain) would have happened regardless. Neither is serious and from my reading, it appears that the potty/training issue is standard whether they are spayed or not and she was still gaining weight before... so to continue is not surprising to me. So NO negatives with these issues, at least for us. Benefits of spaying outweigh any potential negative - in my subjective opinion. Good Luck!

| no it is about a dog that was not spay and now has a health issue possibly from not being spay so why spaying and neutering is very important in male and females as other health issues can occur |
