| How much does your vet charge for an office visit? My vet of 30 years sold out to one of those vet chains...VCA. He's still working there, but no longer has a say in the business end. I can't tell you how shocked I was when I got the last bill...$53.50 just for the "office visit / consultation." (All I went in for was the shot.) Then, everything else was tacked on. $36 for the shot. Even an additional $4.99 for throwing away the needle for her rabies shot. Hazardous waste. Good grief. I'd like to know if these charges are about average or not. I'm in Massachusetts, if that makes a difference. His charges sure shot up like a rocket after VCA took over.

| Mine is $40 for a office visit also. I was shocked when I took Chloe for her first visit with me and spent $216! And that was with a coupon that was supposed to take off the office visit charge!

| All vets have such different prices. I know I am very lucky because my main vet don't charge for the office visit just the service provided. She is very reasonable. It cost me 13.00 for a puppy check up. We also have another vet in our area that it don't matter what you go in for it is going to be at least 100.00 before you make it out the door. I actually like my reasonably priced vet better, not because of her prices but because she is very familer with the small breeds. Our higher priced vet I realize has more "overhead" expenses because they are a 24/7 facility. I use both places. |

| I used to go to a veterinary clinic that was bought out by VCA, but like you said, they are REALLY expensive. My husband is in a club with another guy who is a vet (way across town, so we can't use him), and he says that VCA is way over priced. I did like the vets there a lot -- they seemed very competent -- but it was always like they were trying to "upsell" after they became part of VCA and they charged such high prices. The last time I took my 2 dogs there for a yearly check-up, it was over $800! That was for the exam, shots, 6 month of Sentinel, etc, and special blood tests that they recommended for my dogs just because "they were seniors." The dogs were not having any symptoms of any kind, and the blood tests turned out normal, but that is the last time I am going to get talked into anything like that. I now go to a vet clinic that is much more reasonable. They charge $29.50 for an office visit. They try to minimize costs, and even have a bulletin board where they post websites that have the best prices on heartworm/flea meds. They don't have the bells and whistles that VCA has, but they are great for maintenance of a healthy pet. I'm sure if I have complicated problems, I would go see a specialist anyway.

| We live in Missouri and just recently had to take our baby in to be checked (she ended up having liver issues), but the regular visit was $44 - on a "re-check" he charged $22 - I can't believe they actually charged you to get rid of the needle from a shot - ridiculous!!! Too bad your vet had to "sell out" to a large company - maybe find another one??? |

| I don't know how much my vet charges. I don't think he charges for an office visit, only for services rendered, but I have only taken my puppy in when it is time for a shot or she needs something, I have never had JUST an office visit. I think he is pretty reasonable though. However, I don't know how much mark-up there is on vaccines and medications, he may be making a big profit on those things. |

| I was there last week and ours is about $43 for an office visit, although they rarely charge me unless I came in for something stupid. In other words, if they're already charging me for treating her, they usually only charge me for that. Especially when she was a puppy and we were always in there (it seemed like every week) for something...shots, ear infection, me freaking out about her having a UTI when it was just a diaper rash ...whatever. |

| My vet doesn't charge for the office visit if we are going in for something routine like shots. However, if I am taking one of them in to have something checked out then I think the visit charge is $30-$35.

| Mine charges $15 and he's great! he remembers what we were in there for the last time. Needle disposal fee is only $1, and yes all places must charge for haz mat waste fee. Now only if he would stop recommending Science Diet to me all the time.
