| hair HI, I'm a new mommy and the hair is so difficult, it makes me cry. My little minnie hates the brush, i can't even get her to stay still long enough and am very frustrated and concerned. i feel like when i brush one area the next day from all the petting is back to it's big know mess. I'm scared to take her to a groomer because I've heard horror stories and when I go to pet smart it always looks like they are torturing the dogs. I'm scared too that she is going to have to be shaved and I just don't know what to do Please help me and my minnies |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Don't cry, it gets better! First off, try to make grooming a fun experience for her with treats, lots of praises and short sessions. Any mats, work out before you brush. You can use a little cornstarch, sprinkle it on the mat and work with your fingers to untangle. Make sure the brush you're using doesn't hurt her (brush on your skin with the same amount of pressure you use on her). Don't brush her with dry hair, use watered down hair conditioner and lightly mist her first. Brushing dry hair will break the hair and is more painful for her bc of tangles. Be patient and try not to get frustrated as she will pick up on your mood. Several short, fun sessions a day are much better than a long drawn out unpleasant grooming session.

| All good advice above. I would also suggest using a grooming comb as well.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Like Jencar98 said try short sessions and give her treats after. Also when they are sleepy I keep a brush near by and gently brush them as they lay there. Although my one, Cali is still hard to groom I just keep doing it. It gets better.

| Thanks I didn't know any of those tricks. I'm so happy i found this web site. I 've been feeling like a horrible mommy but I'm so new at this and was never a dog person ever and just fell head over heels in love and can't stop stressing about the hair thing, she needs a bath but everyone tells me it will make it worse. then my vet said she can't get groomed until her last round of shots. Am going to try your tricks and go from there. thank you so much. Quote:
