| ![]() So you guys just take a raw piece of venison and feed it to our little yorkies? I mean my husband is a hunter so I have access to it, but really? It's safe to do? And they like it?? Who has done this? ![]() Last edited by cliffick; 12-20-2009 at 06:03 PM. Reason: spelling |

| ![]() I did this just today. Only I gave it to my boxer. My yorkie was asleep at the time or she would have gotten some too. Hubby was slicing up a couple of hams to make jerky and he saved the scraps for the pups. They love it and it's good for them. I only give it as a treat. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() I feed raw, but I feed pre-made (Primal brand right now) - but if I had access to fresh venison, wow...you can be sure I'd be incorporating that into their diet. ![]() ![]() ![]()

| ![]() We feed prey-model raw and yes, we do just give them a hunk of raw meat! Of course feeding a raw diet is more than just that -- you have to balance their meals with bone and secreting organs/liver. Raw is safe for dogs and humans as long as you take the same precautions with it that you do with raw meat for yourself. I'm SOOO jealous that you have a source of wild, fresh venison. How wonderful! If you have any questions about feeding raw, feel free to ask! TONS of YTers feed raw and a couple of us even feed prey-model, which with your fresh source of venison.. sounds like what you would be doing as well.

| ![]() It is fine but i belive they recommend that it be frozen for 48 hours then thawed and feed. this will kill any parasites that may be present. |

| ![]() I have fed venison! My dogs love it! I'm out right now but hoping my brother in law has some for me soon! I like to freeze mine for about a month to be sure it's safe from parasites but others do not always do that. I like to err on the side of caution..... |
