| ![]() I just received my newsletter from Tufts Vet School and wanted to post this info: The FDA has approved a new drug for the treatment of hyperadrenocorticism, commonly know as Cushing's disease. Vetoryl (trilostate), which comes in capsule form, is the first drug approved to treat both the pituitary and andrenal-dependent forms of the disease in dogs. The condition occurs when the body produces excessive cortisol, normally released in times of stress. Vetoryl acts to block cortisol's production. Signs of the disease are easily missed: increased water consumption, and urination, increased appetite, reduced activity, excessive panting, thin or fragile skin, hair loss, recurrent skin infections, and enlargement of the abdomen.
