| Does your yorkie get excited with their food? I have had dogs all my life (58 years) and have never had a dog that you couldn't bribe with food, until now, of course. Dudley, 2 years old, never eats his food like he likes it. I give him a 1/4 of slice of his food which chops into less than a 1/4 cup a day, and this is the food that he likes!! He messes around with it all day and eats it finally by nightfall. I have tried all sorts of brands that you have mentioned as being good for him. He hasn't ever eaten a bag of dry food in 2 years. I finally threw it out and got samples of everything I could think of from the pet store. He won't eat any of it. He does enjoy throwing it all over the house and chasing it. I have tried hand feeding him, putting wet food into dry, feeding only wet food, which he will eat a little and then not touch it again. I have tried to with hold his food if he doesn't eat it in 10 minutes, (some book suggested that,) of course with no results. He wants our food but if you try to give it to him he won't touch it. I swear, this dog is going to be the death of me. Thanks for letting me vent. |

| This is totally typical of this breed. If you just scan the first two pages in this forum, you will find at least five other posts about it. The two most common things I see posted in here are: 1. My dog pees everywhere. 2. My dog won't eat. Good luck, there's lots of info in here to get you started! |

| My dogs arent crazy about the dry food but they do eat it. I give them lil caesars moist food as a treat in the morning. They love the lil caesars. If you have not tried lil caesars give it a try. My dogs are real picky about the moist food too and they love it.

| My Rowdy is very very picky too! It's sooo frustrating at times. Someone on this forum posted the recipie for Satin Balls. It is to put weight on dogs that have been sick or those that are very picky. It is supposed to be fed raw, but I'm not into that, so I baked the balls at 350 for about 6 minutes (cooking time would depend on how big you rolled the balls). Rowdy loves it! I don't know any thing about the claim at the bottom - but if you google Satin Balls, you will find some more information about them. Satin Balls Half Recipe -- recommended amount to mix up 5 lbs cheap hamburger (for high fat %) 1/2 large box Total cereal (about 6 cups cereal) 1/2 large box uncooked oatmeal (about 7.5 cups oats) 5 raw eggs 1/2 of 15oz jar wheat germ (about 2 cups) 5 packages Knox unflavored gelatin 5/8 cup vegetable oil (this is pretty close to 2/3 cup) 5/8 cup unsulphered molasses pinch of salt Take all dry ingredients and place in a bowl. Crunch up the total, and then pour all the other dry ingredients over it. In a another large bowl put the hamburger meat and the wet ingredients. Mix each bowl well, then half each so that it is easier to mix. Mix just like you would a meatloaf and then roll it into desired size balls, and place balls flat in freezer bags and put in the freezer, thaw out a bag as needed. (I cook the balls before I freeze them and I put a bag in the refridgerator to thaw and use them for about 4 days). This can be used not only as a quick weight gain, but as a everyday supplement for dogs. This recipe has been tested and analyzed by several universities and was found to be a total canine diet a dog could live on this without added kibble or any other supplements.

| food I could have written your note!! I think I have written your note! I have never in all my 59 years had a dog that has been as much of a problem eater as this one. It is a struggle every single day to get this dog to eat. The only time I do not have a problem with her eating is when my daughter brings her boxer over and we feed them together. Then Daisy eats alot. Dakota has been here a week while they are on vacation and Daisy has eaten more in this week than in the past three! It's the competitive eating thing. It works! I have never owned a dog that wouldn't even eat table food. There is not a dog treat made that she will eat either. Hard to train a dog without food rewards!! I sympathize with you, I really do. It is so frustrating. |

| Rowdy is a competitive eater too. I finally had to start feeding my older dog Rowdy's puppy food to get him (Rowdy) to eat. Treats - yeah right. I did find the Rowdy kinda likes the yogurt drops you can get at petsmart. Lots of people say they use cheerios - but Rowdy just sniffed and turned up his nose. Anyway, he will eat the satin balls mentioned above.

| food I'm leaving for Hawaii in the morning but you can bet when I get home I'm making satin balls!! And then probably going to have to find someone to give them to cause I bet Daisy won't eat them. She is going to be staying with the gal that is president of the No Cal Yorkie Club and she has 6 Yorkies. I think she will do just fine eating!!! Competitive eating does work!!! Yogurt drops I haven't tried, I'll have to get some. Daisy won't even eat 'real' beef jerky. She's a stinker I tell you!! LOL |

| Rowdy is a carnivore! He usually (the operative word is usually) will eat meat of some sort such as chicken or steak - so if he goes on a boycott of his dogfood, I can usually get him to eat meat. I had good luck with the Gerber (human) toddler chicken sticks (looks like vienna sausages) when he was a baby.

| These dogs are very stubborn, but here's the solution: You pick a nice type of dry food like Artemis or Wellness or some such and you put 50 gram in his foodbowl. And then you stop worrying! When it is empty you put another 50 gram in. He will maybe not eat for 3 days, but he WILL eat when he gets hungry. You KNOW what you are serving is healthy and tasty, so this is a battle of wills. He WILL eat when he gets hungry. My girls didn't eat for 3 days and then they did and I have had NO problems since that Be strong my friend Btw: be sure that he always has water!

| Wow!! Thank you for all the suggestions. I am glad to know that others have found a solution. Usually it doesn't bother me too much, but sometimes he just drives me crazy wondering if there is anything that he will ever like. Anyway I will try the Satin Balls. I will probably have to feed them raw though because hamburger cooked and patted dry makes him sick. He might be able to eat it raw(yuck). |

| Have you tried Innova Evo? My Jasmine has always been a light/picky eater, but when I switched her to the Evo a few weeks ago, she took all her food out of her bowl, spread it out, and ate every Evo kibble in it (I had mixed 72/25 old kibble/Evo kibble). I immediately threw away the old food and for the next few days, she ate probably twice as much per day as she had ever eaten. Since then, she's eased off a bit, but--finally--I'm happy with how much she eats every day. Just as an aside - I also feed her an ounce or two of the Natural Variety raw meat every night - and she gobbles that down without any hesitation at all. Good luck with Dudley! |

Maggie also like Ceasar's in the morning. She doesn't care for the duck, or chicken though. She eats 1/2 container of Ceasar's, cut into tiny cubes and grated cheddar cheese on top. Her dry food stays down all day. If she wants something else to eat it's dry food. Every once in a while we will give her some human food, but it's always mixed with some dry food. So far, it's working great.
