Just Rescued a female yorkie from puppymill need advice

I just rescued a female yorkie 6 yrs she is about 2 lbs she should prob. be about 4lbs she is hair , skin and bones it is really bad. She is really bad her leg has been attack by a greman shepperd several months ago she uses it sometimes but mostly carries it. She is nothing but bones she can only eat wet food not many teeth. I am going to take her to the vet monday I brought her home bathed her cut the mats out and wormed her with drontal plus feed her. Why do you think she is so skinny not feed enough , something medical, worms just wanted some input she is so bad the lady said she was not making any money off her so she had to go .... Awful people in this world She is very pretty but needs alot of help any advice... Thanks

Thank you for rescuing her! Most commonly, worms and not enough food are the cause of them being skinny. Feed her bland foods for now, like rice, etc because it can be hard on the digestive system to suddenly have so much good food. The vet will likely check her leg for a luxating patella. I hope she gets better soon. Just be sure to give her LOTS of love!

There are a number of reason she may be skinny... I hope it is just that she needs a home with TLC!

Bring what you de-wormed her with to the vets and ask her to be checked for parasites. I would think the odds of her never having fleas are slim to none and there is a really good chance that she's got tapeworms. After I got Winston and took him to the vet it was.. the one thing I never thought to have him checked for. Never realized it until much later and they had gotten bad enough for me to notice. She's most likely skinny because she didn't have enough access to food - but she could also have other issues like tapeworms that wouldn't help things.

I agree with the others. prob not enough food and worms. make sure to let the vet know what you gave her for the worms. he may want to get a poo sample and go from there. Im glad you took her in and I hope the legs not causing her pain, make sure the vet checks her leg too. keep us updated on her. would love to see pictures.

Well you are allready diong the best thing you could for her by taking her to the vet. That's why nobody gave advice silly because that's the first thing they would have said. And you are an angel for rescuing her. Please keep us posted on her visit with the vet. You will like this site, lots of good info and support here. I hope she has a very happy rest of her life.

Well done for rescuing her, I could cry when I think of how badly some dogs are treated.

If you take some poop either wrapped in newspaper or in a sealed pot to the vet, it will save time. Sounds gross, but it will save you describing it! He can have a general look at it, then take a little bit as a sample to send to the lab. Might be an idea to just take note how many movements a day she has and how she is peeing too.

Awe your such a blessing to that lil one for resuing her. Most important thing is TLC and a vet check. I hope they find out why she is so skinny!
I know wet dog food is more fattening maybe you can offer her some of that. Also boiled skinless chicken breast with frozen green beans (bc of the sodium in the canned) and rice would be good for her.

BTW, does this 'lady' still have other dogs????
