Winston's not eating...need advice? Winston is 8 months old and when I brought him home the breeder had him on purina puppy chow which I know is horrible so I slowly moved him over to Royal Canine puppy chow. He would gobble it down the second it hit the floor. He has since lost interest in it so I got him Nutra (wouldnt eat it) then I got Royal Canine for the picky palate (wouldn't eat it) and I have since gone to the holistic dog food store and gotten samples of all the different foods. Problem is he seems to turn his nose up at everything and he just doesn't eat. I made him a raw dog food the other night he gobbled it down but then when I gave it to him the next day he wanted none of it. I have no idea if this is something to do with his GI tract or if he thinks not eating will get me to give in and give him people food. He doesn't get it often and when he does its maybe a bite of chicken or other beef. I have mixed wet food into his dry food and he will eat it but if the leftovers have been in the fridge then he wants none of it, even warmed up. I am worried something is wrong with him but then again I think he might be playing me. Do any of your yorkies have this issue? Today I pretended to feed his food to the cat and then he wanted it all! If I pretend I'm eating it he is all about it... I'm worried he will starve himself to death. He is 7lbs so maybe his stomach is just so tiny a little bit fills him up? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

hahhahahaha ~ you've got a Yorkie all right ~BRAT~ I used to have to sprinkle parm cheese OR smash up a Liver Treat and sprinkle that ontop of their dog food. I would pick a really good dog food and stick with that. What are some of those Holistic brands you got?

We got TONS of them. So far he will eat the Taste of the wild if I vary the flavors. We have natural balance (he walked away), Wellness super5mix, Eagle pack holistic select for small/mini breed puppies, solid gold "just a wee bit", Innova, Diamond small breed puppy formula, eagle pack original formula and the clencher a sample of ziwipeak which costs $110/bag. I'm pretty sure he will eat that one willingly. I have to feed him the food like a treat before i put it in a bowl because then he will just walk away. Also, I've learned he likes to eat off of a plate more than a bowl. Uhhhh stubborn boy!

All those foods you mentioned are good quality, so I would focus on getting him to eat one or two of them. It is also his age, I had to "play games" with mine when they were young But it does get better | |

My little Zhoie is 9 mos and she is the very same way. My breeder also had her on Purina, which I switched to Royal Canine, she loves it. But I wasn't sure if it is good, so over the mos, I have went through at least 5-6 different kinds of Holistic. Nope, she just picks at it. I'm resolved I have to stick with RC, no matter what. I also buy natural canned chicken in water and sprinkle it lighty over the food, and she eats it all. I actually purchased Nature Variety Instinct at lunch today, tried it tonight, won't eat it at all!! I feed her RC puppy 33 but have been mixing RC Yorkshire Terrier 28 specific for their breed with it and she is doing good on it. I already see an improvement in her coat. You are suppose to switch at 10 mos, but I'm slowly doing in early. I will be sticking with RC, enough is enough.
