I adopted my yorkie from a woman who claimed to have bought her from a breeder because of horrible living conditions. This is the first Yorkie I have ever owned. She is a year and a half and just had her second litter of puppies eight weeks ago. When I picked her up, I noticed her hair was a little thin. Later on, I noticed a small bald spot by her ear. Then again later on, when she rolled over on her back, I saw a flea. To sum this up, I found a couple more fleas later on through the day, (total of maybe four), but only when she rolled over on her back and the hair was thinner on her stomach. I treated her with advantage, and 12 hours later, I have not been able to see anymore. I'm wondering if her hair is thin and shedding because of the fleas, or if it could be because she just had puppies not to long ago. Any advice?

You are likely right on both counts...

Pregnancy and nursing can be hard on the quality of coat, and fleas can cause bald patch's! So I expect in time you will have a lovely "hairy' dog!

Congrats on the rescue, a 1 1/2 year old should not have had 2 litters yet,

Thanks so much! Another question, do you know if the advantage will take care of the fleas by itself? Since she wasn't badly infested, I just didn't know how well it would work. The appointment for the vet is a week and a half away, so I didn't know if that was too long to wait, because I don't want her to become infested!

Advantage works really well!
I recommend that you vacuum really well a few days in a row (including the car you brought her home in) and throw out the vacuum bag!
The Advantage is said to work, on its own.
I am not crazy about chemicals, but I have used it!
You can shampoo with regular dog shampoo, between applications, don't use dish soap, or people shampoo. Just a regular dog shampoo..
The vet will advise you, but you may have to do a second application at the 2-3 week mark. But if you are seeing the vet, ask!

Because of where she came from and what she's been through - I'd also ask the vet to rule out mange, ring worm, and a thyroid issue.

Thanks so much for responding! I actually believe it is a mix between allergies and the fleas. I've noticed a difference in just days! I think the person I got her from was feeding her table scraps only because when we sit down to eat, she goes crazy. She is eating her dog food, but doesn't seem real crazy about it. I am getting her into the vet soon, but I just didn't know if there was anything I could do in the meantime, it was just making me wonder what was going on. Hopefully they tell me she is healthy, that is all I am worried about! Thanks guys!
