I need something to help relax Prince before getting his nails cut and foot pads trimmed. Benedryl doesn't work for us. Anything holistic??

My old groomer suggested I get something from my vet to calm Buddy
down before his next grooming appt. Instead I learned to groom him
myself. Too afraid of drugs and my dog.
I did, years ago, purchase something from Foster and Grant catalog
when Buddy was a puppy to releive his stress when I left. They were
like cookies, however when they came I was afraid to use them.

You might look there if you go on line. I know they have several
things but not sure if any work.

I'm also looking for something to help with travel. We're taking a trip to Tennessee later this month and even though both dogs have been ok on short trips, this will be Lola's first long one. Someone suggested Rescue Remedy to me on here for Toby after another dog got ahold of him but I haven't gotten any yet. Anyone ever used it?

They may do just fine without anything.

Ellie road all the way to GA with us (from MI) and then back home a week later and did fabulously.

Thank you, but I am afraid to buy anything ingestable online for Prince. I do all of his grooming at home as well, except for his nails and pads. My husand and I tried to do it a few times, but he gets r e a l l y upset! (He has CT, so we have to be careful about his excitement level). I always take him to his vet ($30 bucks for nails and pads) to have it done, but the last time he went for his nails, he got so upset that he had to get a shot for his CT...severe breathing issues. He tongue turned a light blue!!!!

What's a mother to do????????????????????

My groomer uses a product called "Chill Out". It can be purchsed from www.aromadog.com They sell aromatherpy products (all natural) for pets. It works well for thunderstorms also. You spray it in the air around your pet or spray it on their blanket, etc. I purchased a bottle and took it to my vet who said that all of the ingredients were safe to use.

Glad to hear Ellie did so well. I really don't want to use anything if I don't have to. I guess it will depend on how they handle the road trip, along with 4 days with all the grandkids. Now THAT may be stressful for me!

Acepromazine

When I worked at the vet, we would have a couple "agressive", "stress" dog's come in that would need Acepromazine. Its a sedative, you can only get it from the vet with a perscription. And the dog needs an exam before they give it. I am not one to just drug up your dog just bc they need their nails cut, but in those cases it was a must, and they will big dogs, shepards, labs...it is just an idea.

I would honeslty try working with him. Rub his feet a lot when he "lets" you with no problem give him a treat..keep doing that over and over and he will get better..I think YOU have to do something..or what you are always going to have to give him something when he gets his feet done??

Peanut is a BASKET CASE when I take him to get his nails cut. He comes out panting and stressed out to the maxed..and I know him, its not them its him! So the next time I went to have them do it we went in an exam room and I held him down and talked to him, blew on his face. It helped alot! I personaly think its all in the "holder" I have learned to hold biting cats down when they will just lay there and be submissive to me. When I hold peanut I "scruff" him and I lay him on his side with my arm laying over his body. He just sits there. He has no choice. When we are done I tell him he is a good boy and treat him. Works everytime.
