I finally found a dog food for my precious picky eater Ace. He absolutely loved it but here are my problems (Its Purina Chef Michaels Canine creations, comes in a big blue bag and is somewhat soft kibble, very meaty) Anyways the issues :

1. It says its adult dog food and Ace is 8 months old, not quite and adult.
So is it Ok for him to eat the adult sog food yet?

2. The bag it comes in sucks because it wont keep the food fresh. I just cut a corner and poured some out.

3. The chunks are still too big for Ace so I have to cut it up for him so Im wondering if i should take the time too cut the whole bag of food to small pieces so I dont have to cut it up three times a day and will a tupperware container keep it fresh?

Anyone have an easier suggestion??

I feed Wellness small bites so the pieces are plenty small enough for their little mouth

. It comes in a resealable bag

It is also a pretty good grade of kibble! I understand picky (Sugar......why can't you just EAT it?????) But I'm worried about her nutrition so I "sweeten the deal" with some boiled chicken pieces thrown into the bowl

Not sure of the age to switch from puppy to adult tho.

The reason you feed puppy food to your puppy is because of the nutrition in it. to help them grow and get their protein. there is less of that stuff in adult bags as adults don't need it as much also note that softer food can cause bath teeth/breath as instead of washing the teeth and gums like hard food does it sticks to them. If you brush your puppies teeth then it won't matter, but it is somehting to keep in mind. My dog did not enjoy her food when i first got it but at first i mixed it up with canned food and now she LOVES it (no more can food though). Good Luck

You know..a lot of the food yt's use, you can get free samples..I feed innova evo red meat small bites..I am not sure if they have it in puppy..but If I were you I would just get some samples of quailty food..then you can see what your picky eater wants without spending a million bucks on food!!

I agree it's a nutrition issue for feeding your yorkie puppy food until 1 year of age. My Sophie is 9 months old and I feed her Eukanuba Small Breed Puppy Kibble. It's hard and cleans her teeth at the same time. She likes it so I plan to feed her Eukanuba Yorkshire Terrier kibble when she is 1 year old. I like the idea of Eukanuba having breed specific formulas for yorkies special coat and diet requirements. They carry it at PetSmart and Petco

so what if I mix his puppy food (wellness) and the one i bought that I know he will eat? Do you think he will eat any of the kibble?

I feed mine Royal Canine Kd hypoallergenic formula and it's quite large instead of using a knife to cut it I got a pill cutter at the dollar store, sure makes life easier.

Large breed puppies who do a great deal of growing need higher protein puppy formulas...toy breeds do not. I own 2 yorkies and 2 biewers and have not fed a puppy formula since the first one.

My suggestion would be to consider purchasing a higher quality food such as nature's variety, natural balance, or taste of the wild. I hesitate to recommend wellness any more simply because of the bone issues being found in bags and some reports of problems since they've changed the formula.

My experienced breeder told me the exact opposite. That toy breeds, such as yorkies, need much MORE protien than larger dogs due to their small size and recommended only high protien puppy food. Perhaps a YT breeder member can clarify this.

I recommend feeding your baby Lifes Abundance! It is a great food and Gizmo loves it! He used to pick at his other food but he absolutley loves the Lifes Abundance and it is great for furbabies of all life stages whether puppy, teen or adult!

It is a very healthy food and they have some great treats as well!!
