| Hot Rod was neutered at 6 1/2 mos old. He does not mark inside at all. He will be 2 the end of August. He weighs a whopping 4.1 lbs. He's gotten up to 4.3 lbs and was a little round and asked the vet was he overweight and she said that he could probably an ounce or 2. This was wintertime when we weren't walking as much. We generally walk about 1 1/2 miles total for the day plus he and Maggie May run around playing. So as for being overweight, I guess it is also how and what you feed him and what kinds of activities you'll be having him involved in. Hot Rod came microchipped when we got him. I feel better that he does have it. Good luck with what you decided to do. For me, I felt having him neutered was the responsible thing to do.

I would have blood work done on him before you have him neutered to make sure all is ok...I would also ask what kind of anesthesia they use..Sevoflourine is the best....very gentle...as soon as they are out of surgery and oxygen is given they wake up...They are still a little groggy when they come home but, not as bad. I have also heard alot of vets use Isoflourine and have heard this is a good one as well. As for micro chipping....There are alot of members here that have their furpups micro chipped...I am not one of them. I have heard good and I have heard bad...this is a decision you will have to make on your own. If you allow you little one to go out unleashed or you live in an area where yorkies are being taken then I would say yes...have it done....JMO... Good Luck with your decisions

| Definitely get the microchip. You have to decide why you want to neuter Denzel. The main reason is birth control, but is this a concern for you, i.e., will he be running loose, having opportunities with females, etc. http://www.showdogsupersite.com/kenl...ionindogs.html & there are other articles with similar content.

| I always Microchip all my puppies. I think it is a must with all those pet thief.... Teddy just got his operation and he is doing great. When scheduling a procedure with your vet make sure you ask for isoflorine gas. Its a gas that can be better controlled during surgery. Many vets use a injection instead and a lot of yorkies will go down for the surgery and never ever wake up.. So very very sad.. Ask for gas... |

| My little man has been neutered also at 6 1/2 months and was micro chipped at the same time. i felt like it was the best thing to do and he has been fine with having them both done at the same time. Good luck with what ever u decide xxx

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Got Izzy at 20 weeks and next week she was spayed and microchipped with Home Again. We just got a new Biewer male, Cosmo, and he is 19 weeks and he already has an appointment with our vet on the 31st for neuter and microchipped - easier to do both at same time if you can. I say microchipping is one of the most important things you can do for your pets.

BANNED FOR NOT SENDING A GIFT EXCHANGE GIFT! | i guess i am leaning towards getting it done i kind of felt bad for the poor little guy. but id rather have him safe happy and healthy and being that it seems to be no big deal for spay/neuter, i feel much more at ease with my decision |

| I have only seen cats get fat after neutering, and that was when it was done too late, after 8 months old. It happened to two of my childhood cats, they got to be almost 20 pounds! But another cat I had done at 4 months he stayed nice and lean. Anyway, you should do it, it's better for them.

If your boy is active I wouldn't worry about the weight gaining. The health risk for not nuetering out weigh the risk of his gaining weight.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I have both my guys microchipped and I do believe in it. Both of them are neutered too. I wouldn't worry too much about weight. Dogs gain too much weight from improper feeding or disease/imbalance. The most important thing is to choose the right vet. If you look in The YT Library - there are threads there about Anesthesia Protocol (very important for small dogs!) and How to Choose a Vet. Might be helpful for you.
