I don't know how to get Bailey to swallow his pills - YorkieTalk.com Forums

I tried to give Bailey his pill today and for the life of me he won't swallow it, I've tried peanut butter..opening his little mouth and putting the pill inside, but as soon as he could he spit it out again. Any suggestions? He is doing really well, playing and just being bad!

I know Greenies makes a pill pocket. I have personally never tried them as peanut butter is the trick for Maddy.

Is it a capsule, chewable or does it have to be swallowed whole, etc.?

If it has to be swallowed whole, you can try a pill gun or putting it in the very back of his mouth with your finger.

I use a pill gun - it keeps those sharp little teeth from clamping down on your fingers. And, it gets it far enough back in the throat he's almost forced to swallow it.

It is half of a little white pill..I even crumbled it and tried that way, but he spits it out, I tried prying his little mouth open more, but he didn't want any of that and let out a little yelp, I'm afraid of hurting him, so I stopped, but he has to take it somehow in order to get well, I'm at a loss, I thought peanut butter would do the trick

Hold his head up, straightening out his neck, place the pill in the back of his mouth and hold his jaws stuck until he swallows. Sometimes it helps to rub their throat with your other hand.

Pill Pockets (by Greenies) are great and Chewy loves the taste of them. I've also used cream cheese and regular cheese to hide the pill in. That pill gun sounds like a great idea too though! Good luck.

I've also taken a tiny piece of bread, put the pill inside - squished the bread into a little piece, with the pill in it - that has worked really well for me.

Omgosh, What a struggle and he still didn't swallow it. I tried to push the pill down in the back of his throat and he was going crazy like I was trying to kill him, I was scared that I would end up hurting him so I gave up for now. He is strong for such a little guy! I wish I had one of those pill guns, sounds like a great idea. I hope I can get it in him somehow though. Thanks for the responses everyone.

I have the same problem, but I saw my friend doing this for her poodle and it works every time.

I put the pill in his this mouth, wrap my hand around his mouth gently. Then I blow into his nose through the opening (looks like the little tunnel you make for warming your hands up) One quick blow and he swallows it. Takes about 30 seconds.

I crumbled it into a few smaller pieces but he spit them out, he is worn out now from playing and asleep again, when he wakes I will try getting it into as much a powder form as I can, I'm keeping fingers crossed

If I can't get a pill down and it can be crushed, I just mix it with something like sweet potato and force it in with my finger and then hold Ellie's mouth shut so she has to swallow.

String Cheese!!! Works every time w/o fail. Pull off a nice thin but wide piece of string cheese, wrap the pill in it and there you go.....I hope something works for you...Snickers has eaten the cheese and left the pill out, just make sure you wrap it well....
