| The vet said not to change his food not even the flavor but... I do want to change it to Purina One because thats what my other dog is eating and his coat is beautiful and most important he is in great shape. Munchie right now is eating Royal Canin. Its a dry food. I know that in order to change it I will have to mix the food for some time then after awhile jut feed Purina. But also someone said I should mix dry food with wet food. Is this true? He also said no table food. So does this mean I can never give him any meat? I can't see him never eaing anything but his dog food for the rest of his life Really guys just give me some feeding tip and how do you feel about Purina |

| If you'd read the thread you started a few days ago you'd see some good advice on how to choose a good food. Read the sticky at the top of the Health & Diet forum on grading foods. Puring is NOT a good food. Why do you want to switch anyway? http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...your-baby.html

YT Addict | I don;t know that much about feeding your dog Raw or anything... but I do know that Purina is not a good food. You should switch to Merrick or Wellness, they have nice flavors wet and dry.

| I would stay away from the purina, it's not a very good quality food.

| Yorkies, being a small breed, need a nutrient dense food. They don't eat much so it needs to be a high quality and very digestible. I personally wouldn't go from RC to Purina One. All the varieties I looked at have corn gluten and by-products in it . There are many better foods than that. I use Nature's Logic. It's a very high quality food and all my dogs love it. It's not grain-free, but the only grain in it is millet. I like that because millet is not a starchy grain and I feel that some grains (rice, corn, oats) are not so good for the teeth. They provide carbs for the dog so break down into simple sugars. My opinion is that this can contribute to dental problems so I'm happy with the millet being in their food. I feed all mine twice a day with just dry in the morning and dry mixed with a little canned and some water in the evening. Works for me and my pack. Also, I give them chicken and sometimes liver for treats.

| Genghis doesn't like RC, especially not the Yorkie Puppy formula (he tried the yorkie adult formula at a friends house and liked it). He is now eating Chicken soup for puppies, which he loves, I think it's stinker than RC. When he is about a year I think I will switch him to wellness as he seemed to like it when he was at my aunts house though she mixes her dogs food with wet, and I'd prefer to keep Genghis on a dry diet. We'll see what happens in a few months. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Whichever brand you decide on please remember that puppies need a different type of food than an adult dog, so you'd have to be feeding them different kinds until you puppy reaches about 8 months. I agree with your vet, no table scrapes. Dogs don't feel the same way about food as humans, they don't really care about "variety" or think, I wish I could have some of the chocolate cake she baked last Wednesday, they live in the moment, and while they might smell what your eating and want that, it's best if you say no. In a pack, the leader always gets the bests foods, so dogs can respect this concept, and it doesn't make them feel bad. The meats that you eat are often too fatty or salty for a dog, I have occasionally given Joey a bit of chicken breast meat, or a tiny tiny bit of lean steak as a treat, but it was more for me than him. If you can make a rule of "no table scraps" he'll probably be much healthier. I have learned that when I say "no" I feel better about myself, and his health, than when I give it. It's hard to be strong, but real love demands saying no. By the way, I really hate swearing in posts, please try to say what you want without the swear words, I know it's easy to get annoyed, but I don't think anyone is swearing at you.

| Personally, I feed my Maddy Innova Puppy. She will be going on the adult formula starting in August. I would suggest that you not feed Purina. |
