| Choking???? Well we finally got our little boy home Sunday afternoon. He is 1lb.9oz. and his name is Dudley for those who didn't know we were getting a new baby. I have been sooooo careful with him because Lexi, Tina, and Kayla just stand and bark at him and I have to keep them seperated right now because I sure don't want them to hurt him. I don't think they would on purpose but accidents happen. Tonite he got choked on something. We never did know what it was but scared the life out of me. My husband said I was hysterical but I was just really upset. I let him out of the kennel 4 or 5 times a day to run and play and he is so fast I have no idea what he picked up. Has anyone ever had to deal with choking and what do you do with one sooooo little. I thought I was going to die. |

| Was he actually choking on something or making gagging sounds? Cuz when Momo runs around, sometimes he'll make sounds like he's snorting, gagging, & choking. Yorkies can get pharyngeal gag reflex. If your baby was actually choking, he can't breath, right? Momo actually was choking once on a piece of apple I dropped & the emergency told me to check his gums. If he couldn't breath, his gums would turn pale. He ended up throwing up the piece of apple. After that scare, I asked my vet to teach me doggie heimlich maneuver.

| Thanks, I am also asking the vet. I have read about choking because of our other babies but Dudley is just so little, how on earth could you even hardly get your finger in his little mouth to remove anything. Having Kayla I know what the honking sound is but this was like all of a sudden his air was cut off. What ever it was he must have finally swallowed it because he was finally okay. I have never been so scared in all my life. I just freeze when something happens, like I'm moving in slow motion. He is just soooo tiny. I have to pick up the others kibble because he will try to eat it. It was picked up but he may have found a piece. I just don't know, but I am finding out what to do because I never want to go through that again. |

| Do not fear a dog because they are so little If you think he was actually choking on something and you think his breathing is affected you have to act immediately and forcefully Grab him and immediately turn him upsude down Usually that action alone will have them let go of anything they are holding in their mouth Sweep a finger into their mouth ... use a pinky if you have to if that still doesn't work open his mouth and see if you can see anything there I have used tweezers in the past for my dogs God forbid ... there is doggy CPR but that is only as a last resort if their breathing ceases

| Lulu choked a couple of months ago while we were camping on Spring Break. I gave her a piece of chicken (she is food aggressive anyway) and she didn't chew it but "inhaled" it and immediately couldn't breathe, started shaking, took a shaky step and fell over all stiff. It was horrible! This was in about 5-10 seconds. I grabbed her up, shook her a little, and still nothing, so I pried open her mouth and stuck my finger in there. I think I shoved it on down, because she freaked out on me, growled and yelped, but she was breathing! I put her down and oh she was mad at me! She got over it really quickly, and I almost had a melt down after that. It really scared me, and I've learned to be very careful how big of pieces of anything she gets.

| Oh, believe me I know. I have started putting alittle water on his food and mixing it so it maybe will help to not happen again. I am taking him to the back of the house to play now instead of in the family room. I really think what happened he ran out in the laundry room and found a piece of the other babies kibble (which is bigger even though its for small breeds) and just couldn't swallow it. Geessssh, my poor heart. I thought I was going to die. |
