| Yesterday's vet visit - skin discoloration Yesterday I took Layla to the vet because of some dark grayish spots on her tummy. They've actually kind of taken over her whole tummy area now, and it's all dark and flaky Since I wanted to get her in soon and our regular vet wasn't available until Thursday, we saw the other vet there. I was glad! Last year we had the same kind of problem except the spots were reddish. The vet immediately said bacterial infection and gave us antibiotics, without doing any testing. The vet we saw yesterday said it could be a number of things, from allergies to bacterial infection to hormone imbalance to mange.... he sent us home with a lotion to rub on her 3 times a day. He wants to see us back in 2 weeks to see if it has improved at all. If not, he will decide on the next course of action - either blood testing or skin biopsy. I'm hoping it clears with the lotion, but I'm really happy about him wanting to find the root of the problem instead of just giving antibiotics and that's it!

| Skin infections are so tricky theres so many things they can be. My Chachi had one once that my vet thought was flea allergy but after doing a skin scrape found it was mange. I hope the lotion works and it clears up

| Does mange involve loss of fur? I just went home on my lunch break to check on Layla, and her tummy still looks pretty dark on one side, but back pretty close to its normal pink color in the middle and the other side. And the flakes are all gone!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yes, it can...but so can a lot of other things. Did the vet call the skin infection "pyoderma", btw? Bc that can push hair out of their follicles. What meds and lotion were given?

| Well she doesn't have any hair loss at all... I was kind of hoping I could rule out mange from that The vet didn't know what was happening exactly, but I'm hoping he will do a scraping when I go back in 2 weeks. I would rather pay the money to send something to the lab and know FOR SURE what's going on, instead of trying to treat what it MIGHT be. I will check the name of the lotion when I get home! I know the tube said it's good for scrapes, cuts, sunburn, etc.
