| What about pet insurance? Does anyone have any opinions on a good company for pet insurance? I have been researching and found there are about 12 companies that offer pet insurance. I am looking to purchase insurance for my 6 month old Zoey, trying to avoid the expensive surprises that pop up.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I don't have the ins., but if I did - I'd get Pet Plan - they are the only one that covers congenital/genetic issues, as long as they're not pre-existing (meaning, already diagnosed before you get the ins.).

| Thank you, I found the same thing after reviewing the top 5 pet insurers. Pet Plan is the only insurance that does not exclude genetic or hereditary conditions like the dreaded luxating patella. I paid around $1,500 for my older yorkie to have the surgery and statistics show that 70% of small dogs will get the condition. I am going to purchase the Pet Plan Insurance.

| How does pet plan work? Do you have to pay a monthly fee or something?

| From my research, it works just like human insurance but you pay the bill and then get reimbursed. You can pay the premium monthly, quarterly, or annually. Most cover accident and injury, some cover wellness too. I can pay for the cost of normal vet visits, it is the unexpected things that I would like to insure. You can visit Pet Insurance Review for an overview of all carriers. Hope this helps!

| I posted this in another thread, but I have PetPlan, and I have been VERY happy! They process claims VERY quickly and are very helpful and responsive to questions. I got insurance for unexpected things too, but I've also submitted claims for somewhat routine things and was pleasantly surprised! Oliver & Charlie both had a few retained baby teeth, and PetPlan covers tooth extractions! Oliver also contracted ringworm a year or so ago, and I was reimbursed for much of the treatments for that. |

| Thanks for the additional info, that seals the deal. I am going to purchase with them. They have the highest rating also on the site that rates the carriers.
