| Chicken allergy? Alexander has a terrible allergy to chicken in dry kibble. Even a little serving and he scratches himself for days. Does this mean he would also be allergic to raw chicken? I was reading an article a while back about this, and now I can't find it. I think the article said that cooking/heating the chicken for the kibble somehow changed the composition, and that many dogs who were allergic to the chicken in kibble did perfectly fine on raw. I'm not certain exactly what the article said though. Who knows, maybe I dreamed it? Does anyone have any experience with this? What's your opinion?

Donating YT 10K Club Member | The problem lies within the processing of chicken into kibble. Reggie is allergic to processed chicken, but not "natural" chicken...if you want to call it that. Meaning I can feed him chicken I've cooked without any problems.

| How did you determine it was the chicken? I am going through the same thing, except my vet thinks it's a flea bite. She got 2 bites that swelled up, then her whole body went on the attack, I am now trying to keep her clear of all allergins because while she is having a flair up anything she is mildly allergic too, will keep the itching going. |

| Hey Bony. It might be worth doing a little experiment. Change Zander's food to something like Natural Balance Venison and Sweet Potato, or Duck and Potato for AT LEAST one month, preferably two months. If he is symptom-free after that time, introduce some cooked chicken, or pre-made raw for a few days. If there is still no symptoms, you could just assume it is the chicken in kibble, or you could give him some chicken kibble and see what happens. Are you sure it's the chicken in the kibble, or the certain brand of kibble? Also, if he is younger than a year, it is pretty unlikely it is an actual food allergy.

| Yay!! That is so good to know. I want to try NV's Raw Chicken - it should be unprocessed enough for him to tolerate (I hope). Thank you!!

The Primal has SO MANY different flavors. We just stick with lamb because they love it and I don't want to burn my bridges if a novel protein source is ever necessary. They have: beed, lamb, chicken, duck, venison, pheasant, quail, turkey & sardine, ummmmm, I think that's it. I also like the meat better because there are no large bone pieces and it is VERY soft (I guess finely ground?). Anyway, just something else to look at.

| It is also very possible it isn't really the chicken he is allergic to, but all the hormones fed to chickens. So, if you feed raw look for free-range organic chicken (same if you home cook).

| I feed Taylor Duck and Sweet potato by Fromm. SO the doc. thinks it's mostly inviormental, But when I was giving her her meds, I was hiding it in whole wheat bread. Which I know a lot of dogs are allergic to. She still looks like she's had radiation, poor thing. Her itching has gotten a lot better though. |
