When to Spay? Hi, My little bebe is now 6 1/2 months old, but only weighs 2.7lbs. Is it safe to get her spayed. i heard its better to spay before they get their first period. and I have read in other threads that some puppies get their first period at 7months. She is almost there, but she is so tiny im worried about her size and being put under could possibly hurt her. Does anyone have any advice or knowledge on this subject? also, her teeth are starting to fall out, and they stink horribly. only one fell out in the front, and another one is loose, but the rest are in there solid. When should all their teeth fall out? Thank, bebe's mom

her teeth should be on their way out now, they lose their baby teeth at around 6 months,...... as far as spaying, talk to youre vet and make sure he uses isofluerine gas and see what his recomendations are on if it is safe for her weight...... my toby is allready 5 lbs so i dont exactly have that problem..... just out of curiosity what is your baby supposed to weigh full grown??? shes a tiny thing! toby was more than 3lbs at 12 weeks!!!!!

In the UK they prefer to wait until after the 1st season (2 months after is the norm) and I'm happy to take my vet's advice on that (I have a 7 month old and no sign of that season yet - our elder little girl was 11 months!!). I'd rather see a bit more weight on her before I had her spayed if I was you but that is just my personal opinion. She IS tiny! Ours is tiny we think at 3.9 lbs! Regarding her teeth - her breath no doubt smells as she is retaining baby teeth - some of these often do not ever come out of their own accord like the others which she will have lost. If you look I'd be surprised if you don't see "double teeth" where there should be one?! Of course food gets trapped inbetween - Gizzie has the exact same problem! Gypsy Rose, our elder girl had this too and I chose the time she was spayed to have the teeth out as she was already under anaesthetic! Hope that helps a bit! Bet Bebe is lovely!! Ana xx
