Question about Brewer's Yeast

I was just wondering if anyone knew if Brewer's Yeast is ok for our furbabies. I recently read some where that it may not be good for there liver and I give my little on a tablet a day for repelling fleas. I thought it was safe...Dose anyone know?

it is safe. I used to make my own supplement for Layla and it included Brewer's Yeast.

Thanks for your reply...When I read that it may harm the liver it scared me!!! It works very well for repelling the fleas. My little one had a very bad reaction to Advantage (seizure) When I found this product I was so excited because it was natural. I was looking online about ingrediants in some Dog foods and they listed it as may cause damage to the liver.
Do you still use it?

Hi Debra- I don't use it anymore because Layla has pancreatitis and is on a nutritionist recommended diet (otherwise she would still be on it) so i'm just using what she suggested.

I have a holistic dog care book and it says it is just fine- as well as adding a small amount of garlic (which is usually controversial- however I think in small amounts it is ok).

where did you read it may be harmful? i've seen it added to dog kibbles and many over the counter supplements.

Ooooo!!!!I'm so mad at myself for not saving that site. I have just been looking all over trying to find it. But Yeah, they did say that it was in some dog foods. They were listing the ingredients by number with 5 being the best and one being the worst and the Brewer's yeast was listed as a one. They were also saying why they listed it at that number. I wish I could find it...that will teach me.

well if you do come across it let me know- i'd be interested to see it- i imagine in LARGE quantities it can't be good- but nothing is!
