| Considering buying an 8 m/o male with ONE testicle Hello all: My wife wants a male Yorkie so that Bella can have a playmate her own size. We found one in our local classifieds that is 8 m/o at a good price. The "downside" to the little fella is that he has only one testicle. The breeder that is selling him just found out about his condition, thus the for sale ad. We are not breeders and are just curious if his condition could have any long-term effects on him. We appreciate any info you more experienced Yorkie owners can offer. Btw, I guess I need to update my avatar. Bella is full grown at 3.4lbs now. Thanks, Jim |

| it's a must that he be neutered because cryptorchid dogs have a large risk for testicular cancer. And the condition is genetic. Other than that he ought to be no different than any other male puppy. His neuter will be a little more invasive and probably cost more but that's it

| My Bogey had also had this condition when I got him. The problem with him was that the shelter thought he had used for breeding On the upside, his testicles were not too deep into his pelvis and his neuter was not any more invasive or expensive to have done. He is perfectly healthy and happy now that he is with us. Good luck on your possible new addition to the family.

| Thanks for your replies. I believe we will go ahead and get the little guy. Of course we have considered getting another baby Yorkie, but we also have two very rambunctious Miniature Dachshunds the oldest of which just turned 1 y/o today. He is such a heathen! |

| My Chip only had one when I got him. They had to cut him twice when they did the neuter. It was a little more invasive and expensive, but he did just fine, and is my little angle today!

| Well I brought the little guy home today. So far he seems to really like it here, well except maybe for Gretchen's (wire-haired dachsy) harassment of him. My wife wants to call him Beau, so now we have Beau and Bella. I've only been able to get one decent pic of him. Of course that pic will be in the appropriate section. He gets to see the vet on Wednesday to make an appointment to get him "balanced." |
