| Yet another Innova (Puppy Chow) Post! I read other posts about Innova before and just wanted to drop this post about what my vet told me just in case it helps anyone. I have no idea if this has been said, Im new so havent covered many posts yet Last friday my vet told me not to switch to Innova as my pups new food only because the protein comes from so many different sources. So when/if the dog gets an allergy it makes it difficult for the vet to discover/treat the specific type of food its having a problem with. She suggested RC, the yorkie recipe (of course!). I asked her about California Natural and she said thats a really great food, and she has seen great results from dogs who have been eating that food for nearly a decade. She just suggested that I dont start with anything too "fancy" such as the venison because those "rare-er" flavors are usually used if a dog developes an allergy. I ended up getting California Natural lamb and rice dry pup food. Mixing it with his old stuff and he seems to like it (if I coat it with enough cottage cheese ) Just my two cents!

| I use innova and love it.I like it because it produces less waste, the feeding portions are much smaller in comparision to say: canidae and chicken soup. This is very interesting I will have to look at my ingredient list as they have more than one variety.

| Im sure theres nothing really wrong with Innova, I guess she just meant that I shouldnt start him on it so early, probably not a big deal down the road. I wonder if its just the puppy formula that has a lot of grabs of protein and the adult versions narrow it down o.0 hmm no idea

| I totally agree that giving too many protein or grain sources makes an elimination diet for allergies very difficult. I think the regular Innova only contains chicken and turkey though and that shouldn't hurt a thing. The dog foods that some vets like often list "meat meal" as an ingredient. This could be beef, pork, mutton or goat or a mixture of them. The same goes for "poultry". You really don't know the source... So while I think those who like variety need to be careful about how many protein and grain sources they are feeding, I would not avoid Innova for this reason... I can't remember if Innova contains fish. If it does, some vets may want the owner to save if for a novel protein source and that is understandable.

Yes! thats what she said, fish too. I wouldnt avoid Innova altogether either, I know the adult ones come in certain specific protein types but does the puppy one? I havent checked yet, maybe thats what she meant, the puppy one may have too many protein sources. California Natural seems alright so far, if that doesnt work might give RC a try hehe
