Cooking for my baby

I started cooking for my baby today. I did the ground meat, veg, and brown rice -- he has dry put down for him all day. He loved the new food -- so glad I found that recipe. Also his stools are not runny anymore I guess the wet food I was feeding with the dry wasn't agreeing with him.

Since it sounds like this will be more than 10% of his diet, are you adding supplements?

yes, mine like the home cooked meals with there kibbles. Tonight they got chicken hearts,kibbles,steamed vegtables.(sp) after I cooked them (steamed) grinded up in a grinder.

In fact they keep going into there eating room looking for more. They get supplements also.

I give them cod liver oil also for the coats, skin.

I looked at walmart for supplements and all they had was the puppy multi-vit. is that good to get for him. Forgot to tell yall I put some of his puppy food in with his homecooked food. Thanks

When you start to feed more than 10% homecooked food or 10% dog treats, it becomes important to make sure that the calcium/phosphorus ratio is still balanced, that there is enough vitamins and minerals in the food, that they are getting necessary nutrients like linoleic and certain amino acids, etc.

If you are only giving 5 or 10% homecooked, you shouldn't have to worry about this.

When supplementing a homecooked diet, you won't be able to just use one multivitamin unless you use BalanceIT which I'm not exactly recommending (because they put menadione in it...not great). A combination of vitamins and calcium supplements will need to be used. BalanceIT is by far easier but the only kind I'd personally want to use from their line is BalanceIT K because it doesn't contain menadione but this is for dogs with health issues. All that to say, supplementing a pup when homecooking can be extremely difficult and I would not attempt it without talking to a nutritionist.
