| overweight "senior" yorkie My mom recently passed earlier this month and I brought home her 6 year old all blonde yorke female. Just in November, Lady weighed a little over 12 lbs. Now she is 10.9 lbs. Her previous vet had her on RC CC High protein diet and my vet said that high protein does not work for dogs. She also licks her feet, has dry skin, etc. which I know is an allergic reaction to the food. My vet suggested a natural/hollistic overweight senior diet and to test her thyroid. She also as scleritis in her right eye that we have under control. I had her younger sister until my puppy sister (my ex-husband) lost her in December (following a cat under the fence) and she had the same reaction to RC and I switched her to Nutro Naturals before I found this site. My new puppy is on Chicken Soup. Any suggestions for food to help my new "senior" Lady get healthy and fit again? Thanks! |

Second, may I commend you for being a loving daughter and taking her Yorkie home to live with you. Third, I will tell you what works for me with my soon to be 13 year old Yorkie who is an "easy gainer". I cut her regular food, (right now, I am feeding Eagle Pack Holistic Select Small & Mini Breed Adult) food by 1/3, and add chopped, salt-free, canned green beans. Works like a charm. I bathe both my Yorkies with Espree Silky Show Shampoo; no itch dry skin. Sheila | |
