| IMPORTANT INFO - Canidae Dog Food I received this from a rescue group I adopted from and wanted to pass it on to all of you. I didn't see it anywhere else, but if I missed it and this is a repost, I apologize. It is still worth a second look. Class Action filed against the makers of Canidae Dog Food Admin | January 27, 2009 5:16 pm Madison, Wisconsin, January 26, 2009 – A class action lawsuit has been filed on behalf of dog owners nationwide against the makers of CANIDAE brand dog food, seeking payment of veterinarian bills for dogs who allegedly took ill after consuming the food between last summer and the present. The lawsuit also asks the Court to order the defendants, Canidae Corporation and Diamond Pet Foods, to launch a corrective informational campaign. Affected dogs have experienced rectal bleeding, loose and bloody stools, lethargy, and death, according to consumer complaints posted on internet forums and websites. "We can't push back the clock: if hundreds or thousands of dogs have suffered, that can't be reversed. But the lawsuit at least gives dogs and their owners an avenue for redress," stated Ilan Chorowsky, one of the plaintiff's lawyers with the Progressive Law Group, which has offices in Madison, Wisconsin and Chicago, Illinois. The Animal Law Center, Rosner & Mansfield LLP, and Doyle Lowther LLP also represent the plaintiff.

| I just looked this up and apparently the issue was the formula change and people not gradually adjusting their pets to the new formula.

| My dogs have been on Canidae for years and the new formula did not effect them at all. I guess it is possible there was a bad batch contaminated with something that caused those dogs to get sick. |

| I fed Canidae for years until I learned that it was being manufactured by the Diamond Dog Food Company -- that is bad news. Diamond was in the news several years ago with a recall. My local horse feed dealer was a Diamond Dog Food Distributor and knowing what I know about how they handled the recall I will never knowingly feed/use products manufactured at one of their plants. For me it was a sad day, because for almost 3 years my furbabies were fed Canidae and did fantastic. |

| I used to feed it to mine, then it got too expensive for 6 dogs, so quit. Had thought about starting back up with it, but, when I talked to them at the petstore, they said they had a lot of regular customers that had said their dogs were getting sick, etc. so, they had changed foods. I decided against it after that. I wish they would leave stuff alone when it's working good to begin with |

| I really think there are risks with any type of food we buy for our dogs and ourselves. I could switch to a different brand and it would probably be recalled knowing my luck. At least if Canidae really did have a problem lets hope they are taking extra measures now to prevent it from happening again. From my understanding the food is manufactured at a Diamond facility but Canidae uses their only quality control guidelines. |

YT 3000 Club Member | Their is alot of dog foods that are done in diamond plants, I would say 70- 80%, but the individual dog food co have got to have their own quality control we all hope, I feed chester solid gold and it is done at a diamond plant as well, alot of the top foods are after reading the whole dog food journal. |
