| Keeping Canned Food Fresh How long does canned food stay fresh? We usually cover it and have it in the refrigerator. |

| I never kept canned food for over a week. It does do better in the fridge. They do have can plastic covers that you can get for cans. Ask your vet the next time your there. When I worked in a kennel we kept canned food for a week, and then pitched it , just to be on the safe side.

| thanks Thanks! We usually don't keep it for much longer than that. I have been thinking of feeding a partial home-made and wanted to see what the shelf life in the fridge would be. |

| I used to portion it out in tablespoons and freeze. This way I could take out exactly what I needed.

| Three days. A week is way too long. It should also be refrigerated after a half hour or so just like human food. Homecooked she be frozen after three days.

| Great suggestion. I'm going to try that. Previously I took the food out of the can and put in into an airtight container and then placed in the refrigerator. I would usually use it for 4 days and toss out the rest if any is left. I ended up wasting alot of food.
