| Bad Breath : Need Help !! Need some assistance with my Little Lily's bad breath. It would make your toes curl. She is only two, but her breath is horrible. I try to brush her teeth, as often as she will let me, but it is not helping much. I don't think I am getting a very good job done on this as she absolutely hates it and we have to wrap her in a blanket and it takes two of us to do it. I know the vet charges a unbelievable fee to do this as they have to put them under and we would rather not do that. I have tried the greenies, but she just eats them within minutes, so that can't be good for her. Does anyone have any suggestions on treaties, etc, that might help clean her teeth. She is only 4 1/2 Lbs, so I am leary of trying some of the things on the market, witihout getting some recommendations. |

| Since the problem is so bad, not much is going to do a good enough job. She can chew on certain things but that really isn't going to clean under her gums. Having them cleaned by someone who doesn't use anesthesia is more of a cosmetic procedure than one for her health. There are kibbles out there designed to scrape tartar off but the ingredients are gross and I'm not sure that it would do a good enough job. Because excess tartar can lead to heart, kidney, liver and lung problems, I would get them cleaned. Did she lose all of her baby teeth? It is important to brush regularly but if you can't, you can't. Have you tried dental rinse?

| Thank you for your help. I am pretty sure all of her baby teeth are gone. She is going to the vets tommorow for a grooming, so I will ask to speak with someone over there about that. I am wondering if it is her food, since we changed her over to Science Diet, it has become worse, although her coat looks beautiful. |

| My Yorkie is three years old and I took him for a vet check-up to see if he thought he needed a dental and he said nope, not yet and if I were to brush his molars and canine teeth twice a week, I might not have to. I also use the Cool and Clear in the water and the plaque is no long on the caninie teeth so I am mighty impressed with the stuff. Even the malts like it and it does leave their breath fresh smelling as it has a minty scent to it!

| It could very well be her food. Science Diet is not a good food choice for dogs.

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | I use Cool and Clear Dental Care on all of mine, even my cats and I can say it works. Its a rinse you put right in their water, just a cap ful (a bottle lasts a good time) I really really like it. I'm one of those big puppy kisses LOL I give em kisses smack on the lips! So I can't have bad breath babies! Welcome to TrilogyOnline Pets Its under petcare for Dogs |

| I'm not finding Cool and Clear on the Trilogy website. Maybe they don't carry it anymore? |

I use the dental rinse for my puppy too. it works great! i got mine at petco.com. i think it was like three dollars or something. we used it for the first time last night and this morning I woke up to a neutral fresh breath! Also alternative to brushing, I use the dental wipes. it's easier to control because you just wrap it around your finger, stick it in their mouth and just swoosh it around. good luck! i know the pain. | |
