| So we started raw last night.... Wookie really seemed to like it!! He just sniffed it at first, but then he really went after it. There were a few pieces of kibble in it that were left from the morning (we are doing the rotation diet) and he ate all the raw before he ate those! I know this is good for him, but I just felt so weird. Guess cause it just goes against what you learn about raw meat! Plus I was doing homecooked before and I just felt so bad giving him this cold meal when he is used to having a warm dinner in his belly. Guess it is just my hang ups I gotta get over!! I stayed with the Innova EVO kibble in the mornings instead of using Natures Variety mostly because I just bought a new bag of it. I am not sure if I am going to switch to NV's kibble or not though. I dont see that I really need to, but part of me wonders if I should be using the same brand. Doesn't seem like they are made to work together, so I think the Innova would be fine. Wookie really likes it too. Anyone have any thoughts on that? I did go back onto the Natures Variety website and look around it some more. I was happily surprised to see that my hollistic vet (Shawn Messionier) is on the Pet Nutrition Council! Made me feel much better about it!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh GREAT!!! Sounds like he liked it ! I wouldn't worry about switching to NV kibble - if he does well on the EVO, I wouldn't fix what isn't broken. That's a good food. He's your vet? Wow. I've read some things by him and really respect him. Lucky you!

Yes! I love Dr Messionier! I only see him once a year though. I live in NW Fort Worth and his practice is quite a drive for me to Plano. So he suggested I keep a relationship with a local vet and then he can do Wookies yearly check ups, titer tests and all that. I can call him with questions (actually his assistant, but she checks with him before she answers) and they are very good about helping me out as much as they can over the phone. I really, really like his views. He believes in using natural methods whenever possible but also feels there is a place for conventional medicine when used properly! I just love that!!! I had his book "Natural Health Bible for Dogs and Cats" for a long time and really used it a lot before I realized he was local! So yeah, I feel lucky!!! Thanks for the advice on the kibble!!

| Me too, and they are sooooo hard to find. It is very frustrating and disappointing. I am finding vets are either extremely OVER hollistic or just give medicine for every little thing. And it continually amazes me at the lack of knowledge most have on nutrition. I have had a couple just blast me for feeding 'people' food when I was doing home cooked, without even asking what I was feeding. Like I am making tacos or chili for dinner and giving Wookie some of that!! LOL And don't even get me started on the vaccines issue!! Yes I feel very lucky to have Dr Messonnier!!

Nope, not too soon to start at all! Some start raw as very young puppies too.

Wookie turned 3 this week. I think I remember seeing that the raw is good for all stages, but I am not positive on that. Google Natures Variety and check out their website, it is full of good info on the rotation diet. Even has a feeding guide that will tell you how much of each food to feed based on your dogs weight and activity level and the percentage of each that you want to feed them. Right now I am doing 75% kibble and 25% raw, which translates to 1/2 cup kibble and 1/2 oz (or half a medallion) of raw for him. Good luck!!!

Senior Yorkie Talker | I would give my yorkies a medallion in the morning and kibble at night. I wanted to keep kibble in there diet so when we travel I dont have to take the raw!!!

| That's great that you started your baby on raw and even better that he loved it! My whole family have been raw foodies for about 8 yrs now so it only seemed right to feed Curly Mac raw too! She loves it too! |

| So glad your pup enjoys the raw. I feed home prepared raw and Lola just loves it. I keep Evo kibble out but she rarely touches it. |
