| Tarter Buildup While I was looking in my little ones mouth the other day, I noticed that she has some tarter build-up on some of her teeth. I've always tried really hard to keep her teeth clean since she was a puppy. She will not let me brush her teeth at all so I guess when she goes to the groomers, I'm thinking I may have to start asking them to do it. Are there any good treats out there or anything good that can help control the tarter? I thought I saw on a different thread somewhere that there was something you could put right in their water that works really good, but I could be wrong. Any input would be greatly appreciated. |

| I am using a new product - ProDen Plaque Off - that I purchase online from Only Natural Pet Store. This is the first product I have seen make a difference for my babies. The Petzlife Gel made my boys throw up and the water additive seems to only temporarily freshen their breath.

| It's a powder you put on their food. Here's a thread about it http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...laque-off.html

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I've been using the Petzlife gel for over a year now, and it seems to be doing a great job keeping the tartar off the teeth. You use very little, and don't brush with it like you would with toothpaste. The Petzlife is said to soften tartar, and you then brush it away at a later time. I also use the Merrick Bully sticks because they a very hard, and I think they help scrape the tartar off teeth. I would be extremely wary of any product that you could just add to the water to clean teeth. Why wouldn't there be a human equivalent? Here's a link to the Petzlife website, but you can buy it elsewhere for less. When things sound too good to be true, they usually are. PetzLife Products Inc - Products For a Healthier Pet

Thank you very much! That thread was really helpful. When I went on the Only Natural Pet Store website, the product had wonderful reviews. I decided to take a chance and give it a try. Once I receive it and start using it for awhile, I will post an update to let everyone know whether it worked or not. | |

I think there was a lot of concern w/ how high the alcohol content is in the product.

| You may want to try a liquid oral care product. It's inexpensive and you add it to their water. It cuts tartar and plaque and freshens breath. It isn't a subsitute for teeth cleaning or brushing, but it will help some. |

The company that makes Cool and Clear, only says it will freshen breath, and neutralize offensive digestive tract odors, it doesn't say anything about removing or preventing tartar. Trilogy Message) For some reason the link won't open, you can google it, here's a quote from the company that manufacters it: "This tasteless, odorless liquid works in your pet’s water to freshen breath, naturally, without the use of artificial ingredients or harsh chemicals. It combines refreshing Peppermint oils with the cleansing action of Yucca to help neutralize offensive digestive tract odors that can contribute to bad breath, helping your pet to maintain a healthy and pleasant smelling mouth. Our Cool & Clear formula is a great way to supplement your home pet dental care routine. This is the same great product as “Daily Oral Care” but with a brand new name and a sleek new label."

| I recall someone mentioning using some gauze wrapped around their finger, dipped in warm water and then a little baking powder....I have never tried that?! My vet also told me that you can use your fingernail to scrap a lot of that yucky stuff off their teeth!! She showed me on Lily and I tried it and you can get a lot of thick hard stuff off!!! I, too, was always a fan of PetzLife...I must have missed that post, as well.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | There are some people who sell it, who say it will do it, but since the company doesn't even say it will do it, I would venture to guess, it won't do it.
