| Spits up after drinking water After Prince drinks water, he hacks and spits up a thin yellowish substance. Sometimes he doesn't spit up, but he always hacks and sounds as if he is chocking. This only happens at home. I brought him a water/food bowl holder that is elevated, but he still does it. The weird thing is, is that he does not do this at my mom's home. (Florida) There, he drinks water from a bowl that is placed directly on the floor. We thought that maybe it was the water, so we tried filtered water. It still happens. We tried bottled spring water; it still happens. I asked the vet about it several times and was told that he was probably drinking too fast. I brought him a bottle that is typically used in kennels or crates, where you have to lick the dispenser to release the water, to see if that would eradicate the problem. We are still working on trying to get him to feel comfortable using it. Has anyone experienced this???? (Prince is 5, with no apparent health issues). Any information is appreciated!!!!!!! |

| I concur with the vet. He is probably drinking too much too fast. Something similar used to happen to Ellie. She would choke after drinking but it rarely happens now. Of course she rarely drinks now because her food is full of moisture. If you want him to drink closer, I'd keep trying the water bottle.
