ok i just got my 3 month old puppy today, she was fine until all of a sudden she began coughin, very weezy. shed have a few spells and stop. then her eyes got watery...she has never been outside until today when we stopped a few times on our 5 hour trip home so she could go to the bathroom.could she have allergies or do you all think it is something more?

Coughing and wheezing could be related to kennel cough. She needs to see the vet.

thats what i was scared of, shes hasnt done it anymore for about an hour now and she is very playful she just does it when she gets excited and hyper.she has had all her shots except this last twelve week bunch which includes the kennel cough one, how serious is this if it is kennel cough?

I'm absolutely no expert, but here's as much as I know (or at least think I know - someone else who knows more than me will pipe up soon, I'm sure). My pup has kennel cough too... From what I can tell, it's not horribly serious - kind of like a cold for humans. It's a virus, so antibiotics don't actually cure it, but the vet may put her on antibiotics anyways in case it turns into an infection in her lungs. Some pups can beat kennel cough in a few days, and in some it lasts five months or longer! Our vet, along with many people on here, suggested getting a warm air humidifier/vaporizer thing, and put the vicks stuff in the water. Then put the vaporizer next to her crate (assuming you're crate-training her) and make it all into a little steam cave with towels or blankets over the cage and vaporizer. My vet said at least an hour of this twice a day, or whenever the pup naps.

Beyond that, just take care of her like you would a human with a cold - keep her warm, breathing the moist air, plenty of sleep, etc. And of course keep an eye on her, and stay in touch with your vet - you don't want it to turn into an infection the the lungs. Some people have suggested a tiny bit of cough syrup if the coughing is keeping her up at night, but I don't really know anything about that. Coughing, for the most part though unless it turns extreme, is good because it's getting the gunk up out of her lungs.

If it is "only" when she is excited, it may be reverese sneezing.
If you put your finger over her nose for a couple seconds when this happens and it stops, then it is probably reverse sneezing...

My Daisy had something very similar when we first brought her home at 17 weeks. I thought it was Kennel cough too. My vet said that it may be allergies or the dry air in the house because of the heater being on. She has it only a couple of times a week now. I agree with the above post. Take you little one to have the vet check her. Make sure that they check the trachea as well. These babies can have issues with trachea collapse and it can be serious if not noticed right away.

Don't be afraid or nervous. Your baby can pick up on that. Just get your baby to the vet asap just to be sure. Try a humidifier now before the appointment.
