Wont eat out his Bowl. But will eat from the floor.

My pup wont eat out of his bowl for some strange reason. he will drink water but refuses to eat from it.
I just recently change his food to super 5 mix for puppies and he gobbles it up. but i have to put a few kibbles on the floor for him to eat it at all. when i put the bowl infront of him to eat he would just walk away. so when im out to work for atleast 9hrs and food is in the bowl i dont believe he eats anything at all when i get home i put it on the floor he goes crazy for it.. I dont know how else to get him to eat from the bowl.

any suggestions?

Nope! I have to throw a couple pieces of kibble to Keegan for him to catch (actually he's not as good a catcher as he thinks he is!) before he will touch any in his bowl. Looks like both of our 'kids' have quirks.

Romeo is the same way. He will not eat out of a bowl. But he will eat off a paper plate. Maybe cause we do? This way he get a new plate every day. Try that and see if it works.

Pasquale wont eat out of a doggie bowl...he downright refuses....he has to eat out of a flat plate(like the ones we use...only smaller)

Although I don't have a yorkie (YET), I have two shihtzus that will not eat from a dog bowl either. When we got them, I was so excited because I found the most beautiful dish (it was $100.00) and I brought it home, and they would sniff their food and walk away. They will eat off of a flat dish but not a bowl. I thought it was because they have little pushed in faces...but I guess it happens with other breeds as well. Anyway, I just use our dishes to feed them now (a desert plate). I also feed raw food, so it stays on the dish as opposed to kibble.
I really want to find MY yorkie! I am still searching for the right one!

I know this will sound odd, but they have preferences just like we do. I had a dog what wouldn't eat or drink out of ceramic or metal bowls, but would out of plastic. My current gang seems to prefer the ceramic, and out of the 2 ceramic bowls we use, for awhile wouldn't eat out of the blue one, only the tan or yellow ones. They now will eat out of all 3.

Had a horse once that wouldn't drink water out of black buckets, had to be either blue or red.

Try different materials, different colors, or even the plate idea that many here say they use. Just keep trying until you find something that works for your guy and mark it down as one of his special little quirks.

My middle boy refuses to eat out of a bowl also - he's the only one that gets a plate

Max will eat from his bowl, but he much rather have me hand feed, I first need to throw a few for him to catch and then he'll start eating.

I think it's a quantity thing. Too much at once. Pongo when little would take pieces out of the bowl and place them all over and then go and eat it a little at a time..Got to love their quirks!!!

That's what my 6 mos old does, I have to put kibbles on the floor, but, what I did was got one of our saucers down, she likes it and even though I still put some on the floor first, she will go over and start eating off the saucer.

Mine has an interesting way of eating as well, she takes one piece at a time and has to walk at least 10 steps away to eat it and then back to the bowl for another one or two pieces and back to the same 10 steps away to chew.... I tried to put her bowl in the spot where she chews to see if there was a difference, in the kitchen, in the dining room, my room, no matter where I put it she has to walk away to chew! Funny personalities they have!

my yorkie did the same thing for a while and then just started eating out of the bowl with our other dog. he was still very new and very tiny so i dont know if he couldnt reach or if it was just something new and he wasnt ready to try it yet.

That is too to funny! I thought it was just us! We also went thought a spell and I could not find anything they would eat so I tried Lil Caesar food in the small white trays..now they both want their Kibble in those trays so they can carry them around the house and eat where they please! i.e.: laying on the couch, on the rug in front of the fire place, On my lap!
