| Stomach makes a lot of noises Just checking to see if anyone has a similar problem with their Yorkie. My oldest one, he is almost 12, starts acting funny and hides in corners and even trembles at times. When he does this, I hear his stomach or intestinal track making gurgling noises and they are so loud that I can hear it from across the room. I have started adding probiotics to his food to see if it helps. Anyone had this problem? I have talked to about 6 vets in the 10 years that I've had him and nothing seems to help him. thanks Elisabeth |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yes, I experienced that w/ Marcel after he had Giardia - and when he had small intestine problems following that. It could be related to what you're feeding - what specifically are you giving for food and treats? He is trembling bc he is probably in quite a bit of digestive pain. There are a lot of folks who can help on this board and we also know of great canine nutritionists!! Also though, the vets should do blood work on this baby - have they in the past?

| Yes I have been there too with TJ and I agree with Wylie's Mom, that this is quite painful. There is obviously a digestive issue. Get a full blood panel done. Also what food and treats are you feeding? He may need a minimal diet and no rich foods or treats. TJ had an over growth of bacteria in his GI tract. After many different trials and errors, we gave this a try: Tylan Powder ~ ask your Vet about it ...while it worked for TJ, it didn't work for others....BUT I think it is worth a shot Keep us posted |

| thanks for all the info hi all, thanks so much for the pointers. I feed Zeus and my other Yorkies Royal Canis for Yorkies. I add some soft food like Beneful but not a lot. Maybe the Beneful is too rich for him. I will mention your suggestions to his vet. Ever since I started adding the pro biotics, he seems better. It doesn't happen as often. I will continue to use this and also try your suggestions. thanks so much. Elisabeth and the 3 Yorkies |

Like TLC said, a blood panel can explain some digestive issues as well - and Tylan powder can help some dogs. But most importantly - you need to get him on an easy-to-digest hypoallergenic diet asap (NOT HILLS or Science Diet!!).

| thanks so much for all the help I really appreciate you taking the time to give me advice. I will stop the Beneful immediately and I plan to just cook some meat for him and add it to the Yorkie food...The Royal Canis is made especially for Yorkies so I feel that the problem must be the Beneful which has a lot of veggies in it. I never thought of that. He weighs 7 lbs. Now I will say this, that since I started adding the probiotics to his food, he is doing better. But I think I will take him to the vet as suggested and have them do a profile on his bacteria level. they did that for my other Yorkie and found his bacteria level was very high and they put him on anti-biotics and then I started the probiotic with him also. I give them a little yogurt each day too from my cup...I don't think this is harmful since I use the healthy kind and it has the reommended dose of probitics. thanks so much Loz |

Also, I hate to say it, but I don't think Royal Cain is 'that' good of a food. And them calling it a Yorkie Type is really just a Marketing Ploy, nothing more and nothing less - and I wouldn't rule it out either as it really could be the cause to his GI issues as well. I think he should be on a Single Source Protein Diet - Natural Balance has a Duck and Potato, and I am sure that other brands have something too Please keep us posted! | |

As a nurse, I'm of the opinion that when dealing with pain - you should be aggressive, not unsafe of course, but aggressive in all efforts to stop the source of the pain. I really do think you should find another kibble altogether.

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | I have had great results with Wellness Simple soultions. Very Bland, grain free, single protein source, and limited ingredients leaving less for your baby to react to or get upset by. This one worked for me. I was also recommended Core by Wellness (thanks anne ) Whitefish I believe.

| Yorkie tummy thanks again for all the info....shall change the diet and see what happens...you would think that a vet would have suggested this, instead he has been put on meds and all... will keep you posted how he does...it may be a while as it happens sporadically, sometimes twice in one week and sometimes he can go a whole month without it ever happening. thanks all Liz |

| Vets are not properly trained in nutrition, so they typically recommend foods like science diet, iams, purina, etc. which are full of allergens and things that can upset their digestive systems. Do some research online about dog food ingredients. By-products are in all of those foods I mentioned, and if you know what those are, you would never feed them to your dogs. Also, high allergen ingredients are in these foods. Wellness seems to be a good food and Natural Balance allergy formulas (potato and duck, fish and sweet potato, etc.) are good too. I believe you can find both of these foods at Petco. The ingredient list is much better for both of these foods. Good luck!! You can "mask the symptoms" with meds and things like that, but that does not get down to the bottom of what's actually causing the problems. The cause is what needs to be eliminated.

| thanks so much everyone.. Yesterday I went to Petsupermarket and bought a bag of the dry dog food and about a dozen cans of the moist food....I bought as recommended, the Wellness and got the ones with the fish formula and the venison and sweet potato too. Also got the treats they make. I will start Zeus on it today and the other two Yorkies that I have, I will wean them into it since they don't have a problem. But I don't want to wait for Zeus since I don't want him to suffer any longer...I hope and pray that this does the trick...it certainly can't hurt to give them good healthy food, just like us, we are what we eat. Ever so grateful to everyone... sincerely Liz and the 3 Yorkies, Zeus, Annie and Odie |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Yes, I have had the same problems. My baby is now 3 and this has happened to him a few times. Maybe this is something within the breed. I take my baby to the vet in December and will discuss this with my vet. Not sure if it will help though I decided to switch him to Innova EVO and in the morning I give him a little yogurt. He seems to be doing good so far. |
