Help me and my baby New here, I was looking for help on my dog and found this site. I noticed my dog was licking the last couple days but thought she was just cleaning herself. Today my son noticed this: It LOOKS like it could be mastitis, but I just don't know, can anyone help? She's 9 years old and was spayed when she was a baby so she is not nor has she ever nursed (which seems to be the case from what I found here, mastitis is found in nursing dogs). I can't even call the vet till tomorrow and I'm worried about her. She had a cough a couple weeks ago, and just recently finished a course of Clavamox (antibiotics). Now this! Thank you for any advice you can offer.

Thanks to everyone for posting. DH took her to the vet first thing Monday morning. Doctor thinks it may be a tumor (that spot in the middle is actually, I believe her nipple). Doctor took a needle aspiration and sent for biopsy, and put her on another course of clavamox. It has gone down quite a bit between the aspiration, the antibiotics and the warm compresses I used Sunday and Monday. Still no word on the biopsy, but we are hopeful. Thank you to everyone for your good wishes and help. Will let you know when we hear back from the Vet. Just wish I'd found this board years ago when we first got her!

Great news! Biopsy came back and doctor said it's a granular something something infection........ NOT a tumor! Vet suspects that Flopsy sustained a puncture wound that became infected. She has been on antibiotics since Monday and the lump has gone down by more than 50%. Only thing that concerns me is that Vet said if it doesn't resolve with antibiotics, she may still need surgery to ensure that whatever punctured her is not still in there. Hopefully that is not the case. I am going to continue with warm compresses, as I figure it can't hurt and could help. And the dog doesn't seem to mind them at all, I think it makes HER feel better too! Thank you to everyone for your kind words and well wishes.
